I think this one looks SO amazing John, really cool work. One of your best !What he said!
Seriously though, this image is probably your most action-packed thusfar. I love it!
A few minor comments though...
You'll need to strip out a whole bunch of victory markings to represent the 2 March 1945 situation, where Landers shot down two Bf 109s. You need to scrap the last 18 marks plus the "half" mark to the left of them all.
On the top two propeller blades, you've drawn highlights (on the root "cuffs"). These shouldn't be there, as they're the sharp end (trailing edge) of the prop blades. The highlight on the lower-left blade is fine.
Perhaps the pilot could do with a little bit more detail as he appears to be in full sunshine but is rather black now.
Lastly I'd name this piece "Big Beautiful Doll" rather than just "P-51" ;)
Awesome work mate. You're going from strength to strength!
I love this shot, very dynamic with a really strong composition, I had actually seen it on the aviation-arthouse site and couldnt remember seeing it before so I thought it might be a new piece.

This won looks great, excellent composition and your replication of glass and aluminium is awesome.
The only thing I'd like to see is the inclusion of a bit of yellow or orange in the flame and some darker smoke coming from the 109.
I think this is you best yet to.

Hey Guys! thanks for all the good crits! i took some time to make the changes, darkened the area around the bf 109 and the smoke so that the fire is more visible, I also tweaked the victory markings, is that correct Ronnie?
thanks again!
here's some zoom in views, the bf 109 is at 100% and the p51 details at 50% or so:

Very cool! :)
It's amazing to see how crude the 109 is close-up, yet it totally works. Good lesson to us rivet modellers! ;)
Yep victory markings are correct now! Great work mate!

Cheers m8s! couldnt have done it without you!
Ronnie: Hehe, I was actually shocked about the crudeness of it, since i very seldom looked at it at 100% zoom. I also took some time adding the details on the wing and the black sign in front of the windshield, totally forgot those :P
Cheers!

After replying to your latest work (http://www.military-meshes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1062), I realised we hadn't even headered this one yet! And does it deserve a header!!! Fantastic work.
Welcome to the Header!

A very beautifully done view of a "Big Beautiful Doll" :D as this is certain to be one to be admired for a long time coming.
If I may, and even before I do let me make it clear that I have never ever done anything better than your work (Spent alot of time with line drawings though). So take my comments for what they are worth but very lightly please.
To help it be even a more eye catching piece, I would like to add a few very trivial comments. I have to agree with the others first..the light (maybe it's an illusion IDK) on the lower left prop blade, makes it look as if it has the wrong angle of attack. Yes I think the fire should be more orangy with more smokey to represent an engine (ripped fuel injector feed line(s)/crankcase rupture- oil leak) fire over a super hot instantanious fuel tank puncture/ rupture igniting from a tracer round. As far as my own comments, I think the pilot's colors are perfect (leather flight helmet, flight jacket and mae west but maybe missin a splash of color for a harness or two). From my eyes, the pilot does appear to be a bit pushed against the left side of the canopy. The aircraft's situation over the land mass appears to be with a mild left bank and at midpoint in the beginings of a climb after a dive (up and down roller coaster type chase) without much g-force that would be pushing him to the left. My guess is that this orientation was perfect for highlighting the view of the P-51's lines :p. Any chance of adding 10% combat flaps, up elevator and a bit of right rudder also to satisfy the real time pilots out there?
Again an amazing piece and wonderfully done. I can almost smell the engine exhaust :)

Ooh thanx for the header guys! warms my heart every time!
Demons7th_Delta, thanks for the compliments and the feedback! I hope you understand if I don't make these changes (mostly of being super tired of the painting hehehe) but I'll keep it in mind for the next one!
I pretty much agree with everything but what I have had in mind when making the control surfaces the way they are is alot of things from Il2 sturmovik and flying a cessna. for example adding a upward elevator at the speed I was trying to visualise, would make the p 51 make a violent climb, I was thinking the pilot would press the stick forward and even use some down trim, just to keep it going straight, more speed, more lift and more speed, smaller rudder movements (otherwise it would roll and loop very quickly hehe)
U'll have to ask someone with more knowledge (or maybe you're more into this than anyone)
anyway! I'll put the feedback on a shelf in my brain and take them out when I'm painting my next painting ye? cheers m8!
