Yes its real. It is the Lancaster from the BBMF, flying over Huntingdon.

Many aircraft get "caught" as the satellite takes its shot, although the majority are obviously civil aircraft.

Try this one (http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&om=1&z=7&ll=41.85199,-121.47892&spn=5.899222,10.283203&t=h), its really good.

your peter :)
the one above you is pete cook :)

the one pete posted shows a zoom in on a mountain range.
but blocks further new images at about 25% zoom
when i looked at wikipedia it showed a simular satalite shot
same kind of layout roadwise for area 51

upon looking again a the same link "i made a mistake it showed 2 aircraft." or reflection of the aircraft in water ?

although i think i did find area 51

Don't zoom in all the way on that one.

The reflections you see in the satellite photos are caused due to the speed of the aircraft when the photo is snapped. Anything travelling over 150 knots generates the second "ghost" image.

Oh yeah, I forgot, don't zoom in all the way......

What you should see is a C5 Galaxy being refuelled by a KC135 Stratotanker....

What you should see is a C5 Galaxy being refuelled by a KC135 Stratotanker....Which is very cool indeed. Note the C-5 sliding into position, as it's banked a bit. The difference in size is very striking!

Take a good look around this airbase.
Desert field (http://www.google.com/maps?hl=en&q=&ie=UTF8&z=13&ll=33.793414,42.446022&spn=0.065766,0.1157&t=k&om=1)

ps I mean a really good look. It's a very extended complex. Just when you think you've seen the lot you find another squadron. Still evidence of the previous tenants, too.

Nice one. It's got everything from wrecked MiG-25s to swimming pools! :)

I don't want to hi-jack this thread, but seeing as you're all linking to google maps:

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=london&ie=UTF8&z=19&ll=51.152274,-0.215947&spn=0.001218,0.00339&t=k&om=0

this is just north of the runway at gatwick, and very close to me, can anyone tell what planes are there, I think I might go down there and take a look

I had no idea that place even existed!

it looks more like a scrap yard from the aerial photo lol
