just wondering if anyone could offer some advice on animating a set of helicopter rotors. I got the animation all set up but the only way i can see of doing this is using motion blur in the mental ray render settings but the render times are huge !!!!

Just wondering if there is any better way, ive seen qiute a few nicely animated props on reels posted here;) So i was wondering if anyone was willing to point me in the right direction:D

thank you guys

Paul

Well, you can try the animated disc option, although for rotors that can be rather ugly me thinks. I just upped the motion blur quality for my huey animation. You can also render the rotor separate with high motion blur quality and comp it in, which will save you a lot of rendertime.

Having some trouble with FTP at the moment, for some reason it won't log on on any server. Attaching a .MOV won't work either.....I'll upload something as soon as I can.

How did you solve it in the end, Paul?

Well i ended up using XSI's rasterizer motion blur option. It renders out fairly decent motion blur at a quite a good render time. I found the trick was to bring down the speed of the rotors and let the motion blur do the work. It took a couple of tweeks to get it right but i was pleased with the result considering the render time.

I couldn't use the compositing option as foundation doesn't have the compositor in it
