Hi Y'all,

After repeated requests for some more animation and also showing helicopter animation, here goes....

http://kiwi123.military-meshes.com/HUEY/huey.mov

I kept it fairly small so it's easy enough to download for all (750Kb)

The tailrotor spins too fast, but hey, only had 3 weeks for 4 minutes of animation (that is not fulltime but evenings)

Cheers,

Wiek

Great animation Wiek. My only crit would be the lack of bend in the main rotor blades.

Looks excellent Wiek!!!! The rotor effect is superb as well as animation of whole Huey (not mention about the background look - stunning!!)

Very nice indeed, but somehow I have the idea the tailrotor spins a bit to fast... Never seen a real chopper fly that close but it is just a matter of feeling for me :)

Actually, it was just the lack of people (and the resolution  ) that prevented me from knowing it was not true, that's how good it is!

There are actually 2 pilots and a gunner in there :)

I know, just backing up your own opinion:rolleyes:

nah I'm the ass for that matter. But Its a shame its rendered so small, would like to see a bigger res version, but I'm sure that will come up.

Oh btw, was reading "Consumentenbond" this weekend, dont know if you know it. But there was an article on AviartionArt, and one of your works decorating it, if you like I can scan it ;)

great looking animation, there were a few spots that looked like the movement of the chopper could use a bit of work... you know what, after watching it a few times I think its a bit more time on the camera work that would sell it, more than the animation on the huey. Everyones got their personal preference, but it all seems so smooth that it stands out as being artificial. Again, everything looks great, I hope you can post up more of your animations.

Now thats what i'm talking about:) Thanks for showing this give me lots to think about. Now for crits i really hope you don't mind :D The rotor disk is a little flat , even in transitional flight there would be some coning of the blades. But the motion blur is looking really great, did you use the suggestion you gave me and rendered out the rotors seperately ??

And also i think the movement is very good but just perhaps the rotor disk needs to lead the movement of the aircraft a little more for an ultra realistic flight charasteristic, as its the tilt of the rotor disk which induces the movement of the airframe. But on the whole its a really fantastic piece and to be honest with you i'm being a little picky :p ok a lot picky:lol: but being around and flying in all sorts of Helicopters for the last 20 years gives me something to compare to:D

If mine comes out even a fraction as good as this i will be very happy. Thanks again for posting

Hi Giant, I completely agree with all your comments. I simply did not have the time when I did the animation to worry about that. As you can appreciate, 3 weeks in the evenings is not long for 4-5 minutes of animation at this quality.

The disc is indeed flat, and there is no rotation of the disc either. This will be addressed in future animation.

Cobra: I would definitely love to see a scan of that article ! The original is rendered at DVD res, just wanted to scale it down for size.

Arai: yeah, I know what you mean. This was really just done too quickly for my own good.

I'll scan it when I get home, it will be greyscale though, my scanner is a bit broke, when I scan colour all is transformed into shades of yellow=/

I saw a full/colour page add in 'Onze Luchtmacht' magazine. It was the same image as used on the cover of the 3 paged leaflet which is available at the expo.

Yeah apparently the expo is attracting quite a bit of attention. The AD Groene Hart also is/will feature it and it also appeared in the ANWB guide I've heard! :)
