Hello mates,
I'm looking for photographs of FN-5A gun turret, especially the front of it (marked with red on image). What I need is closeup on the stuff behind the glass. This part of turret (the stuff inside) is usually hardly seen on images (because of blinks). Maybe some of You, Guys has a photo of this turret taken in IWM in London or somewhere else - where it is possible to come up closer to it. Thank You :)

Hi Peter
I have www.flyingzonedirect.com DVD "Lancaster Explored" which has detailed photos of the Turret (5 pages). Even with these I could not extract detail of this area. Any photo taken through the perspex is distorted. What you really need is extracts from AP.1659A Volume 1 which is the Air Ministry Publication for the Turrets and is in the National Archives. Ronnie probably knows how you go about getting extracts.

Most of the A.P.'s are available for copy at Hendon. They've definitely got the FN-5 series.

Here's a scan from this book. (http://www.amazon.com/Graphic-War-Aviation-Drawings-Illustrations/dp/1550464248/sr=8-1/qid=1172671823/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/103-9113448-7079052?ie=UTF8&s=books) It's not the exact model, and I don't know enough about these turrets to know how similar they really are, but it seems like it would be useful.

I made the image black and white to save on filesize without having to sacrifice the resolution too much. (Went from 300 to 200 dpi.) Hope it helps.

Thank You MagnumHB:) Well, I already know this picture (but in a bit worse quality so Your scan is very helpful:) ). It's not FN-5A turret (but FN-50) BUT it's almost identical (framework differences) - so thanks mate very much:)

Of course if you really want to get detailed, I saw some interesting rubber tubes sticking outside the American Flying Fortresses, and handled them some on an example that visited a airfield here. Poking them and seeing them bounce when flexed. They occured under gun positions, especially the waist gunners and ball turret gunner position on the bottom. When visiting inside, we checked the inside. There were rounded extensions of the rubber tube that came inside about waist level where the tube flared out into a larger size maybe 4 or 6" long, maybe an inch and a half in inside diameter....

They were in-flight urinals!
