Fantastic image. A very unusual angle of attack from the Spitfire, but makes the image more realistic because of it, pilots often do the unusual!

One thing that caught my eye though; Is the Spit's markings backwards?

Very work and good composition, but the Spit pilot must seek death. Head-on with a Butcher Bird. *lol*

That's a very nice image mate! Great lighting! ;)

The markings on the Spit indeed look mirrored, as Pete mentioned. I didn't spot this before. Also thinking of the markings... I don't think a Fw 190 of JG 301 would ever have encountered a Spitfire in D-Day markings. I am still a bit puzzled about the Fw 190s markings, as I've never seen anything like it. But that's another story altogether :)

Curve the wintip vortex on the Spitfire a bit, maybe, to indicate a roll. The Fw 190's flight controls all look neutral, which would be a bit odd given the circumstances of air combat.

Overall a very nice image, mate! Well done!

it's a very nice image Fox51, very dramatic indeed. Ronnie's right about the markings of the Fw190 though, for one thing I dont think Jg301 were wearing reich defense bands during the d-day period and I dont think they were operating in the Normandy region during that time either. If you wanted a more accurate representaion you might want to show your 190 wearing a JG-1 red taliband. Otherwise, a very cool image!:D

Ronnie, could you explain the marking of late war 190 to me in detail? as i am realy not familiar with that plane.Tyical mid-1944 markings for the A-8 (which had just entered service then) was RLM 74 dark grey with 75 grey on top and 76 light blue undersides.

The Fw 190s encountered by Spitfires in D-Day markings were usually those of JG 2 and also JG 26. They did not have any Reichsverteidigungs bands on their tail. Also the black panel on the exhaust was not usually applied on models later than the A-5 (1943). The most colourful machine was perhaps that of Priller:

Priller was the top Spitfire killer, so his aircraft is a good one to show (even though he didn't claim any Spitfires anymore after D-Day): http://www.luftwaffe.cz/priller.html

Most other machines only had a number, nothing else. Here is a typical formation:

These aircraft are of JG 26 and the numbers are in brown.
I will try to provide a bit more detail on JG 26 tonight.
