I did this art a couple years ago, for a print I wanted to sell on Cafe Press. But after being contacted by Lockheed Martin to "Cease and Desist"
I took it down.
I have it hanging in my office though. Lockheed Martin, however, was nice about it though they said they really liked it, but that I couldn't sell anything that was their product, unless I go through their marketing division.
This was painted using Photoshop 7 and Corel Painter IX.

Nice composition, dramatic lighting and a really tight piece of work. Only thing I would have to offer in way of crit, the falloff on the running lights seems to defined. Maybe if was a less defined light ball, more of a fade it might be better. Maybe not, awsome none the less.

Wow you are truly a pro, the clouds are just perfect! great brushstrokes and perfect perspective! holy moly!
Lovely painted and nice atmosphere to your artwork! Love it!
But.., how can Lockeed Martin say something like that?? I mean if you painted my Toyota and sold it, would Toyota make legal claims to it?? It put's artists and artwork in a new light. So if you sold a painting of my house that I designed, could I claim rights to your artwork? I believe not, not in my country anyway.

Hehe, there's a whole thread on this very subject. Suffice it to say, that I believe the person who gave me the C&D was in the wrong. If I put the words "Lockheed Martin" on this, then I could understand the C&D, but I know many professional aviation artists who paint the F-16 and have no problems with LM, that I know of. I have contacted one professional aviation artist who told me it's not within LM's best interests to pursue me like that. And another on this forum has stated that my F-16 is USAF and not under LM anymore, therefore it becomes public domain. But yeah this very subject is in another section on this forum and over at eHanger.
Thanks for the comments! I have another painting called "Hold Short" in the works.

Hehe, Dan, I just saw this. Yeah I see what you mean on those lights, I'll have to take a closer look at the real things. I had a very hard time trying to find night lighting references on the real F-16's. Back in the 80's, I used to sit near the Eglin AFB ramp after college classes and watch the F-16's, 15's, and F-4's at night. So that's the only visual memory I have of the 16 at night. Oh, except in Saudi , when I was a crewchief on the 135's, we worked long hours and we saw the 16's taxi past us coming back from their sorties.

Nicely done, I like this one a lot. Surprised your spending time modelling a Corsair II when you can paint as good as you do but I suppose its always nice to have other skills, each complimenting the other.

Thanks kevjon,
Sorry for a late reply. As I was mentioning on my corsair II thread, we've just had a baby who has been cholicy (sp?) for over a month and it's been extremely hard for us new parents ;)
But! Good news, and thanks to God, that we've found a good formula to put him at ease, so he's able to sleep through the night pain free. :)
Yeah, I have always been a big fan of modeling, whether with scale plastic kits, or with the computer. So since I did it for a living anyway, I wanted to try my hand at one of my favorite subjects - Military Aircraft. Hence - the A-7D Corsair II project.
I often use the aid of 3D to help me compose a picture, much the same as a traditional artist uses plastic/wooden models to help him with his composition.

Yep, same here.
