Looks impressive, a difficult aircraft to model no doubt.

Wow - Can we see a close up of the exhaust cans? I can see that you left the turkey feather off - that must have been a real challenge!

Sure, It wasn’t all that bad. Once one of the panels was complete I just dupe and rotated. But it does look complex. I still might try to get it to open and close. That would be the hard part

Welcome to MilMesh! :) Wonderful site, isn't it? ;)

Your F-15 looks impressive indeed. Great attention to detail - from the flare of the wing tips to the insane detail on the exhausts!

Hi to all,

A great work of shaped, my congratulations by this great work, now to for some textures to corde with this great work of shaped. ;)

The F-15E is one of my favorite airplanes. ;)

A greeting and good hunts.

there is something a bit wierd though about the first image... where the POV (camera) is in front of the plane... it seems there is something strange about the front gear door in back of the gear... it seems to go on up past the bottom of the plane and into the fuselage...

I think its just a bad angle, but thanks.

Here are some texture WIP still have a long way to go with the textureing. They just show some decals and seam placement more of like a guide for when I'll start texture painting.
I'm using 4X4096X4096 and a bunch of smaller 2048 for misc. parts. Is it overkill? well you can allways down rez so I guess its best to go big then downsise as needed.

If you're happy to deal with many, big files, you can never have too big textures. Maya's renderer doesn't remotely do them justice at the moment, though! What's going on?

They are Mental ray. Maybe its just the quality settings or the JPG compresion. They rendered out in less than 2 min so I cant complain. when I get my textures looking they way they should I'll deffinatly bump the quality settings all the way up.

i use textures that are in the same range.... and for my f-15e.. around 5K... but i'm finding that even that isn't quite high enough.... ah well....

Amazing detail! I have one of these in my library that another very talented modeller made that I thought was the most detailed model I'd ever seen. This model is more detailed. Looking forward to seeing it textured.

A nitpick: you might have fixed it in later work but I've never seen a gap like that on the conformal fuel tanks (under the wings flush with the engine intakes.)

I like the design very much...

I'm pretty new here... but isn't the reason all the detail didn't render out one of those anti-aliasing issues?

Just curious,

Working on Spec Maps at the moment. Only thing left to texture is the Cockpit and the Landing gear parts. Maybe I'll add bump map to some parts.
And of course I'll have to add the weapons load last.

The Beast Is BACK!

Looking for some good crits. I'm going for realism so if anything stands out and looks to be wrong or could be improved let me know. Here is my first pass on spec maps.

I was going for that Ace Combat look. What do you all think? Hopefully no one notices that there's no pilots. That will come later.

Thanks,
By map do you mean UV unwrap or do you mean texture map?
Initially I began modeling the base mesh in 3D Max. But when it came time to unwrap I took it in into Maya, my preferred package, and did everything else. And the textures were all done in Photoshop, as well as the all final composting.

UV mapping is the question. One of the pictures you posted has numbers all over the wings tanks.

I thought you were using a app that put that on the tanks and to make it easier to UV.

I see... yeah that's a good question. What you see there is a home made texture that was created to help the unwrapping go smoother.
It has letters and numbers on the squares to help me see if the UV's get flipped, as well as make sure my UV's are at a 1:1 ratio. I can post an example if you wish. Plus it just looks cooler than checker board.

Yes please I would like to see an example.

Could you go through the step from an unmapped UV object to mapped; also the step and apps that use to map. Or is that to much?

Thank you.

There are plenty of tutorials on unwrapping online. I just meant that I would post and example of the texture I used for unwrapping. There's no shortcuts to unwrapping. I unwrap everything in Maya, mainly using the plainer projection and I try to keep everything as square as possible.
