Hey all, I thought this area seemed the most applicable area to post this work. I did some previz work to show operation of our 'Rescue Ready' system design we're doing for the US Navy. I had to crunch through these in real short order, so alas not as complete as I would have liked. These images will also appear on my web page soon.

Background: US Navy contracted us (Oceanworks) to design and build the replacement system of SDRS. So, here we are nearing milestones as we complete the build. Enjoy.

This is pretty cool! I love the DSRV/Submersible/ROV stuff anyway - But I think this actually works quite well for brochure art !

I think it draws focus to the unit (which is nicely modeled/lit) and sets the ship/ocean as "background" - nice work!

The only "distraction" is that little dude floating halfway out of the water :)

That's quite a different king of gallery entry.
The model is very impressive, but it does look rather untextured and the integration isn't optimal. But for what it is - a visualisation - it serves its purpose perfectly.

Looks very functional as a piece of art, which is how it's supposed to look.

Curious to know a little more about what the equipment is. Is it a fixed installation for a specific class of ship, or is it portable like the RN one?

Well thats impressive, how long did it take you to make that?

Thanks folks.

I had to take the CAD models and churn out everything you see in about a week.

@jf3000: I modeled some stuff almost 5 years ago ;) so I'm no sure what you meant by 'how long'. Many designers have helped design and model.

The presentation was simply a visualization. A finished realism look, wow that would take some time. Ever try and UV CAD models? YUCK! Alas though, I have bodypaint so that be cinch.

The other caveat was trying to deal with finalRender. You see all compositing functions are not available so I rendered with finalRender and created composite masks with C4D renderer.

@Pete: I worked on the RN one too (the Remora). This is a flyaway class so, as I understand it, if the footprint templates are availabled on the VOO (vehicle of opportunity) you can fly this system to anywhere.

@skyraider: please, tell me about what can be fixed (the integration??). I would like to to continue evolving this one and more that I have coming.

For instance the lighting doesn't match a sunny day at sea (no direct shadows or strong highlights).
The perspective isn't quite right, especially on the first one.
The waterline looks unnatural.

If you wish to go with the current lighting for clarity, then brighten up the sky, perhaps add some grey clouds, and desaturate and brighten the sea. It will give an overcast North Sea kinda look.

I've never seen a ship without rust! :)

Interesting ideas. I thought I had this pretty closely photomatched. :(

Unfortunately, the water around the ship is my crappy photoshop work as this is simply a photomatched render so there is no interaction with the 'ground plane'.

This was simply a promo piece, and time for rust and photorealism wasn't allowed. To be honest, I did the graphics for a presentation not posters. LOL, so instead of getting more time for it, I simply was alotted render time to make it big. O well. More to try next time.

Nice job.
Theres something eye catching in the third and last pics perspective though. These two retracted views the top beam of the frame and the frame feet have a perspective projection that seems off. I'd vary the top alignment next time.
