View Full Version : Rainy sortie
This is the first image in a series of renders I have had in my head for the He-177, somehow I think this plane fits well with wet scenes...
This shows three planes from 4/II.KG.100, that's just taken off on a search patrol, armed with X-400's air to surface radio controlled missiles.

PS! I have updated the image due to helpful comments from the forum. Thanks :)

Looks very good nils. I like the composition and the way you've faded the other aircraft into the distance.
Your 177 could do with some weathering though to make it look more realistic.
Cool camo & aircraft.

That looks great Nils! As Kev mentioned great composition.
Lovely image Nils!
I do agree, and think the closest aircraft could do with some weathering, although it looks as if there is some around the engines? At the moment there doesn't seem to be much variation in the main surfaces of the aircraft. Just my opinion... it's certainly looking very nice.

What everybody said : very cool composition, superb job on integrating the aircrafts in the distance with the background. Maybe you should have a look at these tuts for the surfaces :

Also, I don't know if that was the case, but your main plane seems very matte, and it would look better with some specular highlight IMO (haven't thought about the lighting direction and so on, so I maybe completely wrong).

I'd say that's you best image yet Nils, well done !
Besides weathering, in my opinion it needs some subtle fresnel reflection (just reflection on the glancing angles) to make it integrate a bit better. Which will also tie in with bzhyoyo's comment about the spec.

I agree with the points made above, but I think what stands out most to me is your development with interesting compositions. Just getting better all the time :)
The weathering and surface specular highlights are what would take an already very nice artwork up to the next level though.
As already said, nice composition. I like it.
Hello gents
Thanks for (too?) kind words :)
I was finishing this composition last night, and I didn't see the isses pointed out by you... I must have been half asleep. Sometimes one gets too target focused to see the whole image. Of course you are right, both about the weathering and the speculars. I have tried correct this issues now and an update will be added later today (it's in the workshop now).

Well done Nils, that is looking great! Definitely your best yet and the feeling of a rainy atmosphere works brilliantly.
One tiny crit... lessen the aileron movement a bit as that He 177 is attempting some serious rolling there :)
Fantastic Nils :D I really like the the addition of the other two bombers in the distance. When I look at the image I can almost feel the damp chill.

Great image, love the rainy atmosphere, especially the showers in the distance. Well done !
Very nice job! Too many others have added some great constructive comments that would improve the image, my only add would be a gunner or two :)
I've added this to my desktop collection!
Ronnie you're of course right, these guys are up to some pretty exiting movements.. hehe
I stand corrected :)
Thanks for comments guys, I'm happy with the overall feel of the image.
Next one will be the take off, and last I plan to do a returning scene and maybe also a service scene.
The only time I've seen reports of aircombat with He-177's was one that was shot down by a P-51 by Aalborg, Denmark and it did an emergency landing there. But I'm sure there must be other stories too...
