Glad to see MM back, just a shame everything we've worked hard on over the last few years has gone. But a change is as good as a rest as they say. Onwards and upwards!

Thought I'd start by reposting the latest images of my T23. Those of you who were following it will recognise quite quickly that nothing more has been added to it recently, but I will be continuing soon.....

Really like your side view background, if you don't mind me asking where did you find your reference material. I was lucky to find mine through a "model" supplyier.

Great work! What are the specs of her guns? :p

You sure you haven't done some more to her? I'm sure there's more superstructure there than before... looking great though!

No new work has been done on her for about 6 weeks. Family and work (and a bit of golf!) have taken up most of my time recently, but I aim to restart over the next week.

Chukk: I got my references from White Ensign Models (http://www.whiteensignmodels.com). Not cheap but really worth getting. I also served in two of these, Lancaster and Monmouth, so I remember details that the plans don't show up.

Meshfan: The main gun is a 4.5" Mk8. Able to fire 24 rounds per minute over a distance of 14 miles with incredible accuracy. The gun is semi automatic, it can fire without intevention from the gun crew, but requires manual reloading. On the port and starboard sides there are 30mm cannons.

Thanks for the positive comments guys. More soon.

Started work on her again. Only a small update really, added the seaboat. Obviously the funky coours aren't naval regulation!

That's what you get when you let the wrens decide the colour scheme! hehe Good to see you back at it!

By the way - what happened to your avatar?

Like the detail on the "Zodiacs". That alone would have been a challenge!

Wow. Great upclose detail. The little lifeboat looks cool too.

I'll let you in on a little secret. The hull of the seaboats was made with a nice freeware program that model makers use to make CAD models. It's called FreeShip! (http://www.freeship.org). It meant the hull was created in about 15 minutes.

Getting details like that chain correct must be where your personal experience comes through. I'd be guessing how it interacts with the capstan.
One question from your experience, please. Those hatch doorways we see on naval craft: how much of a step up are they usually? I notice the smaller one behind the seaboat is lower than the larger dooway forward of her.
Guess this is the modern day old salt's ship in a bottle.:D

Yeah, in some respects having a little knowledge has made a few details easier to visualise and model. The plans don't really show up everything.

Most hatches on a T23 are about 12" from the deck (always used to bash my shins for the first few days on a new ship!). There are usually 3 different size hatches on the upper deck and some maybe slightly lower than others, although they are usually higher up on the superstructure. The reason for these is dependant on what is behind the hatch. Anywhere that you might need to move heavy items in and out of, such as the hatch you've mentioned, are set lower to help with moving the heavy items through.

Ship in a bottle.....hmm, nice idea:)

Started work on the harpoon canisters and mountings. You may notice that the canisters are much smoother than you might see elsewhere. This is due to the fact that the RN use their own canisters for the missiles. Almost every other navy use a canister that is shorter and has more protusions, which appears to be the standard canister used by McDonnell Douglas to house the missiles.

Little more to add, such as the sprays and associated pipework, and to tidy up the efflux deflectors.

Hi Gener Marcelo - welcome to Military Meshes! If I remember correctly, pete bought the plans for the Type 23 from White Ensign Models (http://www.whiteensignmodels.com) so you could try them...

No progress for a while I'm afraid. Busy at work and have just gotten back from my holiday in Spain. Hope to progress a little more in September......

No new updates I'm afraid. Due to an ever increasing number of diversions and requirements of my time, I don't know when I will get back to it, if at all. It's been that long since I started this I just don't seem to be able to motivate myself to do any more with it. There are so many areas of it I think I can improve by starting again from scratch. I might just try something else and see about coming back to this after that.

Thats a shame pete, yeah life does tend to get in the way but you have probably made the sensible choice. I wish i had got chance to see her and do some renders.

Hope all goes well for you and maybe one day you can get back to her or indeed let someone else carry on with her.

Regards, John

Well i may go back and have a look at mine. Im going to upload my old one here. Its ok but a little low poly by todays standards. Think this place needs to do a bit more sharing of models.

Good to hear from you mate and i hope life is good for you.

Regards John

I've been doing a fair bit of 2D stuff these days, but I'm starting to get the urge to work on the Westminster again, more so now I have loads of referance photos from Navy days a few years back. I should probably make the model before the Royal Navy sells them all off!

Hope all is well John, its been a while :-)
