I ran into the following problem: I switched of the tiling and 'Show Map on back' on some textures and they disappear on the object.

First I thought it was a matter of flipped normals, but it wasn't. I proved this by applying a double sided material and flipping/unifying the normals of that areas.

Any ideas?

does your map have an alpha channel? if so, either blow it away or change the alpha to none in the mat editor...

No, no alpha in the pic. Maybe I upload the file and some basic texture so the max-users here can have a look at.

a good idea... did you try it without a pic at all? a completely new material? just asking... i assume you probably have.. but there is no such thing as a stupid question... only stupid answers...

So here it is.
Don't ask about the tris, this is the way I get the geometry out of Rhino, where I did the modeling.

When I start to download this file I get only "attachement.php", not your *.zip. :(

Works fine here

Yeah, it was my stupid Get Right. It tried to download whole page...
Now it is OK.
Has undersurface of the wing (surface just after leading edge part) two different mapping coords? I,am asking, because it is visible on render after switching on Show Map on Back. I remaped wings with other bitmap but the same effect appear: with Show Map on Back off tekstures on upper surfaces missing after rendering (but they are visible in working window...) Strange...
But after quick build other, new object and texturing I've got identical error. Probablu it is normal for 3DMax, but why in working window everytching is fine?

Problem solved. I had to mirror and rotate the parts in the unwrap, seems to work now *crossingfingers*

problem remains.
When I try to texport, the left side(the empty parts) has no UVW, but when I look into the unwrap, I can see the vetices and edges in my layout.

Problem solved, hadto flip the parts in the unwrapp, a well-known issue, I even wrote something about nearly the same a few day ago in a another form.
I'm off to bang my head against the wall.

Looks like a problem with your Open GL vidcard driver for max, try setting it at another one, if your not using it try the heidi driver...

Thanks for your replys, I think I figureed it out. I was using a material in which I had a photoshop file containing several layers. I deleted one because it wasn't needed anymore. All materials using instances of this map forced max crashing, I couldn't even select them in my MatLib without crashing.
Usually I work with layered tiffs, where it is no problem to delete single layes. Maybe I had the map set to 'individual layer' though the deleted one was completely empty.
Deleted this materials, so everything should be fine...
for now :D
