View Full Version : Bell V-22 Osprey W.I.P.
Don't know if this is the correct place to put this, but here is a W.I.P. on an Osprey using Lightwave. This is my first attempt at modeling without a tutorial so any pointers provided would be appreciated.

Looking good so far :)
But one thing, shouldnt the tailpart of the fuselage be straight?
And yes this is the right place ;)
According to the blueprints there's a curve at the end where the twin vertical stablizers are. And thanks, working hard to complete it. :)

That frontview is great ! Amazing props....but those nose sensors in the earlier images sure don't make it look pretty...

AFAIK airliners.net doesn't allow hotlinking of pictures... I don't mind, but they usually give a good bit of flak if your trying to steal their bandwidth..
About the model, looks good to me, you can maybe have a new idea how to construct that if you look in the obstacle course the part about the round nose :

Did some work on the cockpit walls and the door.

Looking better. I realy think you need to start tapering the wings to a point at the trailing edge.. The V22 may be a helicopter most of the time.. But it does use them to fly somtimes!:p
The nse cone (just infront of the cockpit) is still a little squar.. Maybe think about cutting that off and re-working it?

Its coming along nicely, just need to work on the trailing edges of all your flying surfaces as they are too thick and round and need to be crisp and sharp. Have a look in the obstacle course at Skyraiders subdivision modelling solutions. It will give your some clues on how to go about it.

I'm sharpening the leading edges a bit and adding ailerons to the trailing edges. I'm working on the wings now and next the engines. Thanks for the support guys!:)
Started some work on the engines. Here it is both in Smooth Shade and Weight Shade.

Good going !
Thanks Kev! Just completed the propeller hubs but too tired to start the props. Perhaps after work tomorrow I'll do those and cut out the loading bay doors. Still have to detail the cockpit and interiors, as well as the landing gear. Whew! Can't believe how many fine details this project has.
P.S. Sorry to hear your country's football team is out of the World Cup. Ours came back home but sure glad we made an impression in Germany.:D

She's emerging into the light now.
You're getting there.

Nice one mate its really starting to come together !!!
Did a quick propellers before I'm off to work. Will look it over again later to tweak it a bit.
I had to modify the rotor blades as they were not long enough and shifted the engines a bit.:)

You might need to close the flap wing join upa bit. Second pic its seeming too wide. Hard to get an idea of the blades with them fully feathered like that. It kinda hides their shape, but I thought they were big square paddles at the tips rather than tapered?
Yes, you're right about the taper and they need to be squared. The flaps will be corrected as there may be too much space betwen them.
Whew! After a big headache I altered the rotors and moved the flaps and rudders a little closer to reduce the spacing.

I think the extra effort you've gone to has paid off. Looking really good. Just about ready for textures ?
Thank you. Well, there's the cockpit details and some other attachments around the fuselage. Give me a a few days again (time permitting) and it's texture time. Which is another challenge for me.

Really getting better as you're putting the effort in.
Take a look at :FI:Exec's last pic and also the second one
The last shows an ovoid section between wing end-plates and engines.
They both give you a good look at the inner engine cutaway panel and the associated cableing. That detail would really lift the model's quality, IMHO
Sorry if you're having head-aches. It's supposed to be fun. Dont let my comments spoil that. ;)
Oh, yes I see it now. I'll surely place that in. I'm trying to do some research on how the door behind the cockpit opens and I think the rear cargo bay doors are split in two?
I was playing around with texturing the Osprey and came up with this.:D

LOL. Don't worry folks I was just fooling around with textures so I can get a feel of things. Like this one.:D

Rear is a single fold down ramp.

Thanks. Will check it out.
Bet you thought I forgot about this, huh? Well, I placed it aside to start on the Albatros project, but I'll return to it soon. Here I redid the whole model with the new Lightwave 9.
