started working on this awhile ago,
nevermind the lower reciever its taken from a cad file i found on the net, i have to clean it up and strip out all the polys in the interior, but anyways, i will post more up as i get more done, the updates should be more frequent than the armoured car im working on.
the handguard im using is the larue tactical 7.0, and the ribs are standard KAC , i will post a list of everything planned in the next update which will have the barrel, front sight, front flip up sight, gas block, phantom flash hider and gas tube, plus the back part of the handguard,
living in australia i do not have access to the real thing, i am basing my measurement off the lengths given on various websites and i have constructed my own scale to work to:-)

edit: i will be adding all the bevels at the end

and the rivets?

good beginning....

i will be adding the obvious rivets at the end, the gun will be used in an animation and is pretty close to the camera for awhile, hence why it will be very high poly,
this is not the full update I added the first part of the 16" barrel (non-fluted), phantom flash hider and B.M.A.S. Folding Front Sight / Gas Block next update these will be finished along with some more detail to the existing handguard, details such as holes for the connecting bolts and inner supports :)
hope its not to dark on some people monitor, my gamma is set for my lighting conditions

edit: these are just procedual shaders i am going to leave texturing until the end for the most part of it

Yep its way to dark for me:)

heres it is again, only lighter ;)

yeh sorry about that, i have changed the settings to be the standard gi settings, in this update is everything that i have modeled so far, just to show everyone where im up to, i have also done various attachments which i am remodeling becuase of new reference
the barrel is 16" and not the standard 14.5", and the flash supressor is 2 1/4" making the length 18 1/4" from the delta ring ( i think, im not a gun expert im only writing down what ive read)

anyways enjoy, this time should be good enough for everyone to see,
thanks cobra6 for the previous fix :)

minor update to some parts of the m4, work is really heavy at the moment which is why updates are slow, i have applied some base materials to these, mainly flat colours to see how much detail is lost in the render, i will be doing proper textures later.

@pandaee, i've added you to my msn

Still a bit to dark though. Put it on a white background

Much better. But what is up with your muzzle? Is it smashed between the door? all weird bubles...

@cobra6 , lol, yeh its not smashed the anti-aliasing cant pick up the grooves so it comes out as fizzy black dots, in the next update i will increase the sampling

cobra6

hehehe are you using a skylight and light tracer? If so increase the value to 95% instead of 85%

keeping the thread alive, minor update, the aimpoint and weaver rail is out of scale and proportionly wrong, as its from an older file and i have yet to update it, the light and the offset flashlight mount are still in the process of being modeled but there is enough done to show an update,

@cobra6 , there AA noise probs is still here , i forget to increase the sampling, i will try and remeber this next time

just noticed when it comes time to redoing the aimpoint scope i will have to model a rail riser to place it on otherwise the back up sight will completly cover the scope making it useless

Yeah, you wouldn't see much with that in the way.

Some stuff updated. I have remodeled the LaRue 7.0" handguard in some areas to conform with the new pieces at the end of the handguard which you can just make out in this render.I continued modeling with the front flip up sight and began work on one of the scopes, this one is Leupold CQ-T.

also rendered the updated geometry in different colours.

@cobra 6 fixed the aa problem.

Thought i would post an update to keep the thread going, seperated the pieces and added some progress of the para handgun im working on, this is all in between the firefly as well, once these weapons are done and textured, i will begin work on the lavIII, JOY!!, I should hopefully be able to post some wip of the soldier model sometime this week :-) (note: the soldier is being worked on by a mate, were working together on a mini project)

really nice.... looks like you've pretty much nailed it... once you've got the textures done (and you're almost there) i think (though i am not one to decide) that you've header material here...

I tend to agree.

You got several very nice modelling projects going on mate! I decided to header this one for variety's sake (got plenty of planes!).
So...

Welcome to the Header

congratulations on the header!

Congrats, your quality warrants the header.

Thanks for all the support everyone!
Im glad you all like the modeling im doing, I have a closer up render of the para handgun, it has also been updated, mainly the handgrip which was easy enough to do, normally i like to model all the detail however I think I will leave all the small crossatch holes to the normal map.

BTW all my models are polys, in this case this is all polys and no polySmooth (meshSmooth in max) the firefly in the aviation thread is poly with polysmooth

Been awhile since an update , project was stopped, started, stopped started etc., managed to get this done tonight for the m4, front flip up sight from troy ind.
Note, its still a wip , haven't started on the actual aimer just the main body attachment and a few knobs, this is also low poly originally was around 4,500 but i have stripped it down to 600
There is also a weird gamma thing happening on my monitor, to me its looks very bright and blue, should be more around the warmer colours, orange, red, yellow and be dark im hoping its correct for you guys though
texture is 512x512

@Caman0 , Thanks :-)

Was going to uv up the rail covers and texture them but ran out of time , decided to go with procedural for the time being
