Realistic textures

Could some one post a tutorial on how to create some realistic textures using photoshop. Like these pictures below AL3d & Coolhand on scifi meshes

I use the tutorials at simmers paintshop as a starting point for painting aircraft. The rest just comes down to artistic skill, practice and personal taste.
