I'm chancing my arm posting this, but seeing another Tiger 1 in the forums, I couldn't resist.:)

This was an image I submitted to 3Dworld a while ago (and got published somehow!). I want to revisit the model at some stage; the loader's hatch is wrong for starters and texturing still needs to be done.

C & C would be most helpful and greatfully recieved.

Nice model maybe a whitewash winter scheme would look cool. Just a thought. Tiger 1 is one of my favorites it has the nice slab sides like a MK IV. To me it is one of the things that make a German tank look like a German tank.

Reminds me of plastic modelling as a kid. I was 13 when the first flexable track model arrived from Japan. Wow, was that a struggle to get together.

Very nice Luke, would be cool to see this all textured up. Maybe a Villers Bocage render is in order :p

Thanks for the kind words guys!

Dann-O: I don't think they used whitewash on the Tiger that late in the war, but I do agree, it would be nice to cover the model with it.

Spinner: The tracks on this weren't that easy to put together either...but you may be seeing my main piece of reference for the model, courtesy of Tamiya!:D

Gareth: It would be fun trying to do a Villers-Bocage scene with this - at least I've got some reference to do something like that. However, being my first complex 3D model, I've got a lot of refining to do before I start texturing (as well as a Tiger II to finish!) I've also got to think about the zimmerit that I'll need to reproduce and how to reproduce it. Answers on a postcard to....:D

I think mine's better!

Seriously, I see you've chosen to sheath the tow cables. It would look better if you modelled the braided cable. Bit difficult to do, of course, but the larger pair would benefit particularly.

 Mind you, it looks more accurate....:D

No I didn't really decide to sheath the tow cables; I was hoping to do it through textures, but as long as my modelling method works on the Tiger II, they will be modelled - I just couldn't figure out how to do it at the time.

Actually it is quite accurate. In its own funny way I'm quite proud of it. The brief was to make Nth African WW2 ground targets for a flight sim. So fps ruled and the poly budget was as low as possable while still retaining the visual cues that make a Tiger a Tiger or an 88 an 88, rather than generic box tank and generic cross with upward stick AAA.

Yeah, I thought that might be where the cables were at. I've got to tackle the same thing. Just with hemp instead of steel. The hawsers I need will require the same technique to make with the strands spiraling around each other then the back-platting at the end. There's got to be a reasonable way to generate them so you can just lay down the path and sort the ends.
I just dont know it yet!

Can anyone tell me from where you take blueprints for your Tiger I,
i'm asking for this because i'm new to tank modeling and i don't know where to find good blueprints.

Sorry for my english.

Sounds (and looks) cool, mate!

As far as the tow cables go, I recently saw KT 104 at Bovington tank museum - they had cut away part of the end of the cable to show how they were made. I'm hoping to (almost) extrude a profile along a spline (with rotations) and bend it in to shape - I'll let you know how it goes!:D

3DRichard: For blueprints, try some of the links on this site, but IMHO you'd be better off finding a book with some in - the Osprey books are usually pretty good - and scan them in.
