Hi guys. I'm new to this site, and have now browsing it for a couple of days, and I'm respectfully bowing for the attention to the true details on most of the models.

I have no special knowledge of planes, but I have allways loved the beautiful shapes they represent. My final goal has been the rendrings, and I did a couple of blueprint modeling. I haven,t been true to all the details. It's a lot of artistic freedom around the models. But I just had to make a few aviatic pictures of the Sukhoi SU 27(T-10k). Theese are rendrings for people who don't know much about planes, and I'm sure you specialists will have a good laugh. Like motorcycle helmet, and a pilot a mile from the HUD, cartoon rockets, etc, etc. There is no texturing, just materials. All panels and decals are splits.

Inspired by you guys, my next plane will be modelled with attention to the exact details. Using time to collect references and so. This rendrings are to show you from where I go. I havn't decide which plane to do, but probably a Polikarpov n-190. Just love the shape of it. I have allready done some hybrid Polikarpovs, but would like to do one properly.

Modelled in Rhino 2.0
Rendering in Flamingo 1.0
No postwork.

Whoa, this is some nice work you have there. I like the amount of detail, though I think the panel lines are a bit too prominent(?).

Nice to see another Rhino Man on this forum! Very good model.

If I could suggest you something: try not to use so strong panel lines in textures.

Love this plane...

This is my absolute favorite aircraft. It looks like you have done a good job.

Can you guys read??? he says there are no panel lines in the textures.... they ARE panel lines... and i personally think they are a bit deep... but certainly very clean... (please note i am not being mean here...)

very nice model. excellent work. i love this plane....

Oh, f...:err: I have to back to school...

Just realized, that everything was splited... Few posts earlier I wrote about this kind of modelling by myself and now did not recognize that.. What a shame:err:

But still think, that lines are a little to "visible". Hard work. Congratulations! Are you all so patient in Norway?;)

That is some seriously impressive nurbs modelling. A really tough shape to do with nurbs. Renders look pretty good but could do with better lighting and specular maps......although I know you are limited by what flamingo can do.

Really look forward to the next one, hope you can do it as a bit of nurbs WIP/mini tutorial so us aspiring rhino modellers can learn more.

Thanks for comments. I must agree with you that the panel lines are to dark.
This was a kind of test, to see how much work there was, doing it with splits.
It was just making curves wherever the blueprint told me to, and then an offset
by a small amount. Wasn't that big a deal. I must have been in a good flow,
it was nice doing it then, but I havn't done it with this many splits since.
I guess I made them this dark just to see the work.

Later I have discovered a way of weathering it, and still do the splits.
I have to do it as an decal. 1 big one, and then split. The decal then prevail
on evry piece. After the splits, you would have to decal every piece separatly.

I'am using similar method but only when I need to get texture witch cylindrical mapping. Then I divide model into indyvidual panels and export to Max (also variant with "cuted" insignias). Every part get own polygon ID number and by texporter I produce nice "skin" with all lines corectly "distorted" for cylindrical mapping. After that I draw line and other stuff in Corel, eksport as *.ai into Photoshop and make final texture.

Hmm... As I understand every "line" is not even spliting edge, but thin "hole" in surface, cuting by two curves - oryginal and offset?

Happy man...

Waiting for your Polikarpow's I-190, you were writing about in your first post. Do you have good blueprints? If not, I could help you :).

The panel lines you see on the models are surfaces, not holes. Cut out by the original line and the offset. But I kept the surfaces in between.I deleted them first, but I didn't thought it worked very well. In this model all panel lines (surfaces) are on a separate layer, so it's easy to change the color. In fact, I'm on to it, and flamingo is rendering at this moment. Probably have to do some different renderings, before it's ok.

The Polikarpov is not the 190, but 180. My mistake. I like most of the Polikarpovs, but the 180 is my favourite. I have a few blueprints, but they are for model 180-1. They also made -2, -3 and maybe even more. If you have some blueprints on the 180', it would be nice to see them.

And I enjoy the tranquility of the countryside. Very quietly, except one day a week, when 2 F-16's roaring over in low altitude on a routine path. Then I enjoy both the sight and the noise.

There are two books about (not only) I-180 with good drawings.

Probably the best looking fighter ever build, but I'm not gonna start that discussion in your thread

I do want to say that you did a very good job on this model. Looking forward to see your next one!
