Hello all,

I am requesting some Animation help and Rendering help.

First request:

I am creating a model helicopter using manipulators and I am wishing to create blades; going through start of spin to full military power (rotation) with a blur using the manipulators to do this.

Anybody know how to do this?

Second Question:

I am animating a Jet Fighter with in 3ds Max and I wish to create a Heat blur or Jet Exhaust gaseous effect from the Jet Engines.

Could anybody help me out?

For the jet engine and chopper blade blur use Adobe After Effects. I don't know if max has any plug-ins for blur.

Thank you your response. I will look into After Effects.

Question: does after effect do Lightning Bolts?

Not quite sure as I have not used it a lot but my friend used it for some pretty nice looking pyro effects like explosives.

I'm not a pro but most of the time you can simply group the fans and rotate them based on the RPM of the actual aircraft. I'm sorry I don't know how to set this up on a slider. I use values in the rotation to pull this off or I'll simply use a texture to speed things up and slowly rotate the texture, which creates the effect of highly spinning blades.

See my example. I've also attached the texture I used. The still is the actual geometry while the blurred is the geometry hidden with a circular plane with the texture mapped, I then animate the texture's rotation (slow) which make it look like real geometry movement. Speeds up render time.
The last render is the plane repeated 4 times, which creates darker blades (blurred) and gives a better impression of depth. Please note: This only works from certain angles. From the side (which is hidden by the structure of the hovercraft duct), these planes would not be visible.

I'm working on creating wake, foam, and wind for my render, but that's another thread.
