Here is some renders I've been working on for some Aussie Meteors of 77 squadron RAAF.
Model and textures by myself

Very nice!
They look a bit flakey, not sure if that's the spec or the bump, though. You are using the Raytrace material, I assume?

Thanks guys,
Skyraider....what do you mean by flakey ? Do you mean it looks too bumpy ?
Yep, it is a raytrace material.

The Meteors look great...however the first image is kind of plain-looking to me...like either the Meteors should be bigger to show them off and fill more of the image, or there should be something more interesting in the bg.

EDIT: Upon re-examinations, I think just getting closer to the fg Meteor would do it. :)

i agree with Ronnie... it's looking a bit flakey... the metal's spec is either too big or too small.... not sure... i'm think thinking too big... it looks like car paint....
otherwise.... nice work...

I think it's either the glossiness (too low) or bump (too strong) that's causing this effect. Are you using a glossiness map? If not, I recommend doing the following:
- put an Output map in the glossiness channel
- check the Invert option
- instance your specular map into the Output map
- set the opacity of the glossiness channel to about 50-75%
- set the opacity value to 0 and go up until it looks best (but don't exceed 20-30, often 0 does the job just fine)

Giant - cheers, glad you liked it.
DC and KC - thanks for the feedback, suggestions are noted and will try to improve these things for future renders.

Most helpful input. mrys is also working on his aluminium shader for better renders for one of his aircraft and will find this tip very useful too.
I didn't use a glossiness map. I will introduce this suggestion into my aluminium material and rerender to see the effect.
I am planning to do another Meteor scheme in the near future which is largely aluminium so will see it in action then.
