Great idea!
I'm into a lot of diferent styles of music. Just has to be well done. I like musicians that can keep tempo and show a little virtuosity.
Modelling though, it has to be music that doesnt grab my attention, just sort of fills in the background. So its Counting Crows or Leonard Cohen or whatever I'm not sick of.
Music I really like or thats well done starts me focussing or thinking about the way he's playing or phrased that lyric and before I notice a half an hour has passed and not a vertex created.

So we have the same :D. In my spare time I play on quitar, so hearing music sometimes catch myself on looking into space before since a half an hour and thinking: "my god, how did he played this phrase!". And no vertex.

Tonight I risk modelling to Speed Kills (http://www.angelo.com/speed_lives_mab.wmv)
But I really like guys like Stanley Jorden and Jimi H who re-invent their instrument.

Anything from Rammstein to Vivaldi, as long as it's good. Lately I've had a lot of spanish classical guitar music on, just to relax a bit during stressful times.

I usually listen to something either industrial or sythpop, and then mix it up with an orchestral movie score if I want to try to capture that epic feel. Industrial is my "get it done" music, and scores are my "this needs to look and feel awesome" music. Both can be important! I really hate schedules sometimes.

Try An Evening with John Petrucci and Jordan Rudess. Only guitar anad piano, all recorded "live". Not spanish guitar, but classic. (OK. In fact it was electric, but sounds exactly like classic).
Great show, great musicians. A little jazz, a little rock a little ballads...
Or, if you need sometning stronger, polish Indukti. Their album S.U.S.A.R. is IMO absolutly fantastic. Harph, violin, guitars, bass, keyboards and drumms. All of artists of Indukti playing in big, classical orchestras and in spare time making mix of rock, metal, classic, progress, jazz and what any you want to put into their soup. Something to listen is here: http://www.indukti.art.pl/audio-english.htm

I hear colleagues complaining why this or that doesn't work... but it's usually a code problem anyway ;)
Apart from that I listen to most things metal, especially the more "cheesy" kind (Rammstein, Dragon Force, Lordi, Nightwish), but have a very broad taste for music anyway. As long as it's not dance, R&B or teen pop, I can usually digest it. Furthermore I love all-instrumental movie soundtracks.
Some of my favourites...
Metal: Rammstein, Him, Nightwish, Muse, Dragon Force
Movie soundtracks: Hans Zimmer, Klaus Badelt.
Currently in my playlist: Lordi (quality! LOL!), Apocalyptica, Last Samurai sountrack (Zimmer) and some classic Michael Jackson tracks!

Brother in metal!!! I knew it, just felt by skin!!!
But Last Samurai, soundtrack and film also kick all asses:D
Dragon Force... I saw how this two gays playing on guitars... or rather tried to see;) Speeeeeeeeeeeeedy!

Mmm, Indukti, I'd have to hear more but no_11812 is definately not music to modell by. Cold Inside was better, very Pink Floydish. Is that Mariusz Duda singing on that track?
Oh lordi, Skyraider, just when I thought you were cool.:p
Yes, it was Mariusz Duda. So you know Riverside, I see...

I'm glad you liked Apocalyptica then, wasn't a wasted effort after all
As for Muse....YEAH!!! Did you guys know I worked on one of their music videos ? Love that music to bits ! Keane is quite nice as well, although probably not loud enough for ya guys :P
Nightwish, hmm, rather listen to The Gathering....
Yes, Muse is good. One ot this bands, that have own sound. And point for Apocalyptica! Ruska from "Apocalyptica" album is one of the most beautiful songs (?) I've ever heard...
Surprisingly, I don't use to listen to the music while modelling, although I do so durring most of my daytime activities:). Still, when it comes to music, I listen to various generes, but my favourites are definitely rock, jazz, funk, chillout etc, and beloved bands: Red Hot Chili Peppers, Skunk Anansie/Skin, System Of A Down, Jamiroquai, De-Phazz and some more:)

Before my time is done I expect the bandwidth and tools to use music/sound far more fully in our online communication. Musicons and background post-tracks to express mood etc.
Some guys you'll have your browser set to off their sound but others you'll experience in an enhanced way. Post your latest Panzer render with the 1812 rumbling along as company for it.

Well, my interests in music are various, from hard rock( ACDC, Deep Purple, now i am introducing myself to Metallica) to irish folk music, pop rock techno trance, anyway all the music that is giving me emotions.
And what about the books?
Stephen King, Edgar Allan Poe, are my favorites, actually i am reading "the biggest secret" of DAvid Icke, i don't know if you know him.
It is a strange book about, it is a little hard to explain, the thought of the author that Earth is ruled by alien power.....
Well, i take this as it is, just to read something about another interest of mine, the ufo...

No music while modelling : I need all my brain cells to be focused on only one thing !
My motto about music is : no bad styles, only bad musicians. Hence my tastes are quite varied; lately, I've been listening to :
- Breton music : Ar re Yaouank, Alan Stivell, Denez Prigent
- Irish music : Sharon Shannon
- Jazz : Coltrane, Davis, and Ella Fitzgerrald
- Rock : The Velvet Underground, Elliot Smith
- Rap : The Wu Tang Clan
- World music : Amadou and Maryam
etc... Too many to name them all. :)

Only ever listen to classical or instrumental film soundtracks these days anyway really, as nothing else helps get the creative juices flowing I find. I have also been known, on occasion, to listen to some of the works of the Red Army Choir, and also traditional Scottish music... nothing quite like the sound of bagpipes!

As a big fan of Sean Connery must agree: bagpipes are great:D. Traditional music from UK is very popular in Poland, especially irish but also scotish.

I guess I'm the ol' fart in this thread.....
I have Sirius satellite radio here in the states, haven't listened to terrestrial radio, or my CD collection in over a year. Just have the receiver tuned to my fav genres, and anywhere I go, the same stations play. I am like Martocticus, but having come from a classical family background, (I am a direct descendant of Franz Peter Schubert...) I listen to anything from the Renaissance to the late Romantic Eras (17th to 19th Century, even early 20th C., Rachmaninov, Copeland) But I am a product of the 60s and 70s, so listen to anything from the Beatles, Motown, 70s P-funk, Wings, Blues, Classic Rock, Zeppelin, E.C., Floyd, Bee Gees/ABBA (sorry, I was in High School when they were popular...), 30s/40s Swing, and also, like Milord Martocticus, any movie soundtracks by Horner, Williams, Goldsmith, Steiner, James Newton Howard, Basil Poulidorus, et al. But the creative juices get going with my favs, Handel and Mozart. Sorry people, but it just doesn't seem right to be playing metal while painting, or concentrating on building a mesh of a sailing ship... Anyway, seeing that we are all artists here, anything to get the creative process jacked, right? Keep on creatin'...it all looks grand!

Yes, indeed... especially if your office window (which can not really close) is facing a building which is the scottish school for bagpipes. Nothing like the sounds of several bagpipes badly played all day long...hhhaaha

Ultra-cheesy rock. I mean "Chainsaw Buffet" can only be a classic purely by its title!
These guys have humour, I like that :D

Ha, I had a neighbour who was learning to play violin. Problem was, that he was learning without teacher, just by himself. But, I must said to be fair, he started his exercises only in saturday and sunday about 7.30 at the morning:D. And it was very early stage of art of playing violin. VERY EARLY STAGE, when you are not able to produce sound different then creaking door.
We could not to burn his house - there was to close and fire could eat ours also, so probably he is still alive.;)

I'd say i'm pretty ecclectic and it depends on the day and my mood. Today i listened to metal band "Disturbed" all day because my bosses were being pushy and so i was pissed. A good pick me up music i enjoy is big-band Jazz. Also a big fan of movie scores,...just picked up Pirates of The Carribean and Superman Returns. And when i have a creative block,....Mozart makes it better and the ideas start comin out.

Cowbell.
But seriously, oldies rock. Stones, Zeppelin, ACDC, Aerosmith, Bowie, Clapton, Doors, ZZTop, Kingsmen, Clash, Floyd, Sugarloaf, Foghat - anything and everything rock-related before the 90's. Most are classic hits, but even the more obscure tracks are great. When trying to get creative or figuring something out, I play something quieter like the doors, floyd, or bowie. But when doing repetative/mundane/clear-cut operations I get the faster, louder rock going.

i think his remix of adiago for strings (theme from Platoon) is very nice.
Still keeps the nice mood of the song intact.
