I Like!!
The weathering and dirt down the side skirts looks fantastic. Good bit of variation. Was it done with standard brushes in photoshop and paint by hand? Or by a custom bruh for a one click job?
You have got the level of wear and tear i will be attempting on Challenger

its a mix of both actually.
i found some brushes on the web with splashes and grime, and i applied this along the lower border, then i went over with a 1-2 pixel brush to get scratches and some variation to the splotches, then i went over again with the web splash-brushes, and again with the 1-2 pixel scratch brush.
then i did some sharpening, and worked on different layer with different mud colour to get some colour variation in the mud.

thanks for the tips.
Is this getting intergrated into any sort of Real Time 3D enviroment? Or do you just do the modeling for fun?

no hires model planned. here's the line drawings. also did some modifications to the dirt layer on the front hull there, and some minor changes to the weld lines on the front hull.

Great Post!
Its realy hard to see that the whole tank is textured with just 1 1024 texture. I would never have guessed. Superb!
Is that tri count or poly count?
One final question...do you work on your textures at their native res? In this case 1024? I generaly do the texturing much higher than the final outcome, as detailing is easier.
I have got my work cut out, if i want to match your model. Please feel free to discuss any of your texturing, grundge, dirt, weathering techniques, to at least give me a fighting chance..lol.

hehe. i prefer to texture at native resolution, since then i can work on getting the details as sharp as possible for the given level of detail.
small details like the grille's on the engine deck and miniscule bolts easily gets lost when you scale down the texture, or muddled to a point where it becomes indiscernible.
working on a 1024 is actually pretty liberating, since i used to work on 512 textures...
texturing tips?
i mostly use 1 pixel brushes, and layer styles, with colours.
so i have different colours with different layers and such.
i'll go into more detail tomorrow.

another header? thanks!
oh, as for mud techniques, mud usually gets applied by mixing with water, and getting splashed onto the tank, before drying up, leaving just the mud.
so try and imagine all the ways that the mud can get sprayed onto the tank, and how it would collect as it runs down the side of the tank, and also how it will move around as the tank moves around. this goes for pretty much all sorts of pigmentation on the tank.
hmm.. did i already say this?
