View Full Version : Curved frame Columbia
Yeah, well I know it's called the "Motor pool" but it does say "...if it rolls on land etc etc...
This is something I just couldn't resist starting up - a 'curved frame' Columbia. :cool:Told you I like the unusual...
For the unititaded amongst us, this is a US bicycle built during WW2. More info here: http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=2016

Haha excellent! For a minute I was expecting a strange version of the Columbia Space Shuttle or something!
Well, here's an update.
Have added coggs, chain and stuff. One thinks this is an easy one  - not many parts etc. But there's a load of itsy bitsy details...
Next step is to add front light, back light (rather a reflex actually), stand and pump + small fittings etc.

Well, time to start testing textures and colours. Have added lights etc. Must fix a pump...

This is cool Rags!
As I remember the one I had when I was a kid, the rear axle is larger in diameter than the front which housed the brakes, you pushed the opposite way on the pedals. I don't remember the correct term, but that's the way is worked.
Way cool!!!
Looks great.
The old vintage steel bikes look a lot more delicate compared to the more modern fat tube bikes.
Thanks guys. Here in Sweden it is very common to have brakes built into the rear wheel axle, as denders says - you "peddal the other way" to brake. That's why I didn't react to the absence of hand brakes.:)
Anyways - have added pump and some smaller stuff. Maybe I should "fatten" the rear axle...
