Hi all,

I'm looking for some drawings or scans of the f4u-1 series cockpits. To be more specific, Pics or drawing that would be in a parts catalog or erection and maintinance manual. I've got most of the "standard" pics in books and from the pilots manual. (actually dont have complete pilots manual)and some diagrams I sniffed out on the web. But am in need of close ups of the right electrical panel and left trim console. Also the lower left side of the dash, which looks like it contains the gun primer. Ideally pics /drawings should be something where you can make out text / data plates

Pics of individual components would also be appreciated.

Thanks -

Dan Greve

Check your e-mail! ;)

If you need more gimme a shout. I took 6 mp photos of the Corsair in the FAA museum in Yeovilton. I didn't manage to get all the ideal angles though, but at least they're high res.

OK, now Im off on a different tangent....

internal colors of wheel wells / inner doors, ect....

As far as I can tell, wells after '44 were painted zinc chromate, With the gears / plane being painted blue - but I'm not even %80 sure on that.

Now some f4us have the wells painted in the underside base color. And I've heard that early -1s had a pinkish/salmon color applied

So does anyone have any "factory specs" of what colors were used on the inner surfaces, and a time frame to go with?

My priority right now is trying to find what colors were used on a 1944 corsar, which would've been painted a solid glossy sea blue.

There was a discussion about this on hyperscale. You might try a search or else post your question there and you should have answers shortly :)

If I'm not mistaken, towards the end of the war (and post war), it was all glossy sea blue - including the wheel wells.

I have some ex Vought Blueprints that show the fuselage structure and arrangement for the F4U-1 Corsair. The largest blueprint in this set is 1.6 metres long. The other 2 are 700mm and 500mm each. There is a lot of information presented in these drawings; they are also full of notes regarding the assembly and set up of this aircraft. The drawings show the "Bird Cage" Canopy version from 1942. These 3 drawings are presented in high resolution on CD. Search eBay for seller peter_ewbank. Also separately available is a fully dimensioned blueprint for the P&W R 2800 B with full dimensions ex Fleet Air Arm; also an overhaul manual for same.

See attached, have not got plans for instrument panels, but have these general arrangement drawings plus top view and opposite side of example shown.
