View Full Version : Wing Fairings?

I decided to use some airliners as practice before I jumped into making the F-22. So far I'm working on a 767-300ER. I need some advice, though, on how to proceed with modeling the wing fairings where the fuselage blends into the wings.

I have most of the body modeled out. The only issue I'm having is blending the wings into the body and having it look like the 767's fairings, which has confounded me for the past four hours.

Any suggestions on what I should do and how to proceed? Thanks for any help!

I do my wing fairings like skyraider shows here http://www.military-meshes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=89

I was using that as a reference, but I'm having absolutely no luck connecting the wings to the fuselage this way. Once I mesh smooth the entire thing, the fairings totally screw up and look horrible.

I don't think there is another way to do wing fairings or any majic secret to it. Just have to keep trying.

I model the wing and fuselage seperately like you have done. I then use max's cut tool to cut the maximum size of the fairing (where it starts to curve out from the fuselage) and then just blend the two together by pulling the edges from my cut hole and welding to the end of the wing. Longitudal subdivisions are added to the wing fillet as required to get the required curvature. You may need to add additional cuts in your fuselage mesh also to keep it all quads.

Yeah, I had that thought before you posted... And it worked. Thank you so much for the advice. I'll even go so far as to turn this into an E-767 sometime so that it belongs on military-meshes.com. :P

If I run into any other snags where I've exhausted my patience (and trust me, it took me a week before I posted here asking for help) I'll be sure to ask here. Thanks so much, again!
