I was a bit surprised tonight that I can barely see the fine lines in Mirko's Skyhawk line drawing. The Ju is a little better with visability.
So before I attack my new monitor's gamma setting I thought to ask how others are seeing Mirko's drawings?
I love my old 19"CRT but it was just too darn big and heavy. This flat thing is the first I've had and 'till now I've been attributing it's dazzling whites to the technology. Now I think it may be in need of a tune up.

My TFTs out of the box were so bright it was painful. The real trick with setting up a TFT screen right is to get the backlight as dim as possible. The dimmer the backlight, the blacker your blacks are, and the more natural the image. Plus it lasts longer! Some don't have independent backlight controls though. Search the net for screen calibration guides, there are a few good ones out there.

I'm still using a 19" CRT... it's dying though :( I dread making the switch to TFT - does my eyes in!

They're not leaving us much choice about it though.
AGP cards are just about extinct now, too.
I made an improvement but its still off on the Skyhawk torture test, so guess I'll resort to incremental setting changes and suck it n see. The gamma line doohicky is kinda useless with this screen.
I really dont want to shell out for calibration spiders etc.
Pity you're so far away, I'd give you my old monitor otherwise.

TFT is GREAT (if you buy a good one, Dell Ultrasharp for instance)!

Yep, Just make sure you get the extended service contract with the Ultrasharp 19". They've gained a rep for image burn in and the attendant ghosting.

I finaly got my widescreen Dell Ultrasharp and couldn't be happier. I am however finding it hard to calibrate my standard TFT sitting beside it...it's way to bright.
