By incessant demand...
Right, well, take into account the fact that this is my first ever 3d project, started about 2 months ago. I'm using Modo 103, and here is what I have so far:
I have dual monitors (as any 3-d artist should  ), so it's pretty wide
Fuselage:

Engine:

Cockpit:

Instrumentation:

Weak, blind attempt at a prop:

Overall:

Excuse the innacuracies - I'm not going for the hardcore, full-on accurate kind of deal. I don't have the images, patience, or experience for it. I'm probably going to end up re-doing most of what you see. I feel so inadequate posting this when the thread next to mine has an orgasmic render
Feel free to give me any and all critique, no matter how harsh. I need this to look bitchin' for the scene concept I have in my mind.

This walkaround (http://www.primeportal.net/hangar/bill_spidle/f4u-4_walk.htm) might help with some of those troubling pit bits.

Looks quite good.
I think propellor, propeller boss and cowl flaps are the main things that I see that could do with refinement.
Cowl flaps look a bit chunky.
Propeller looks like the wrong shape and the boss needs more detail.
Keep it up, its coming along fine.

Like Kevjon said, the biggest thing needing improvement is the propeller. Otherwise, not bad at all for your first 3D project.

Good to see your Corsair.
Firstly, please post smaller images next time. Try to not exceed 1280 width or 1600 if you have to. Most artist have big monitors or even dual, but IE/Firefox only works on one, usually ;)
About the Corsair... it seems you've used some references from a P-47 here and there. The engine looks like it comes from a P-47 (or F4U-4) and is not the right model for an F4U-1 model, which I assume you're making.
Also the gunsight doesn't seem right for the F4U-1 but I could be mistaken. There may have been several variants.
Some other notes, mostly minor:
-The propeller (both hub and blades) needs work, but you expected this I assume :)
-The cooling flaps on the engine aren't accurate. They differ in size (each second one is bigger/smaller).
-The opening for the exhaust pipes should look different.
-The framing inside the cockpit is too wide.
-Some missing fuselage detail, but it's WIP anyway... :)
Overall you're doing really well, especially for your first 3D aircraft. Impressive work. Good luck with the wings... they're a bit nasty! ;)
As a general note, be careful when looking up details on restored aircraft - especially airworthy ones. They may have different engines and radios for instance.
I read somewhere you were using the Vought drawings. These are hopelessly inaccurate. I have compared over a dozen different drawings and found only two accurate sets. I can send them to you if interested.
Seeing so much Corsair violence on MilMesh, I best get on with my own one. This weekend I should have some time on Sunday :)

I've looked at so many photos and each one is different than the last. I sort of took pieces from each, usually the pieces that I found easier to make. the gunsight is just a blind make - I couldn't find photos of a corsair one. The engine is a doublewasp, so unless the corsair uses something else it's as accurate as I can make it.

Do a search for R-2800-8W. That's the engine the F4U-1 uses. The P-47 and later Corsair use different versions of this engine. The most noticable difference when inside the cowling is the ring around the gearbox. On yours it's round, it should however be square-ish in cross-section.

Some of the other parts are slightly different in shape too. Nothing the average viewer would notice though! ;)
Here's a pic of the gunsight: http://skyraider.allaboutwarfare.com/files/modelling/F4U/F4U-1D_wip05.jpg
If interested I'll dig out the relevant photos of the engine and gunsight from my reference collection.

What I really need is the following:
Ref for the gunsight
Ref for the uh...control stick thingie
Ref for the canopy
Any images of the stuff in the cockpit to the right and left of the pilot seat.
If you have any of that, I'd appreciate it. Also, how did you build the canopy? I've tried before but it turns into a complete mess.

There's a Corsair cockpit (different version, but still useful) on this page: http://aeronautics.ru/archive/wwii/books/cockpit/page_01.htm
This is a war era Corsair training film with a bunch of in-cockpit instrumentation shots:

Sadly it's missing the gunsight.
The training film is very cool. There's another out there on the P-47 with a wicked ground loop demonstration! Check it out!

Did someone mention gun sights?
My fave thing!

Great, so there's FOUR of them! :)

Yep, thanks alot, I appreciate it. Haven't gotten a chance to look through the material yet - I've been busy in my non-3d life ;)
