What is your favorite obscure/strange weapon(s), from any time period, any type, and any class?

Mine would have to be the nebelwerfer, or "Screaming Mimi":

It was barely used by the wehrmacht, but I love it for some reason.

And though it was pretty widely used, the katyusha rockets:

Simply for the firepower they could deliver.

I know im the new guy, and not to stick to the German ww2 but it’s hard to beat the curved barrel attachment for the MP44 assault rifle. Yea the barrel wore out after a hundred shots but hey ,your shooting around a corner!

It had a full 90 degree turn too, did it not? To rid a tank of attacking infantry from inside.

Speaking of German hardware, there was a Maus tank in development with a twin 88mm turret for AAA duties... now that would have been something else...

Speaking of something else and AAA... in the defense of the Remagen bridge the Germans used an experimental sound cannon. It was unsuccesful because the beam - though very powerful - was too narrow and its range too short.

And while we're at it... check out the Dora railway cannon (http://www.aopt91.dsl.pipex.com/railgun/Content/Railwayguns/German/Dora%20index.htm)... speaking of fire power! :)

I love the US WW2 incendiary bats.
Never used they were suposed to burn Tokyo. Dropped from B-29 height the poor little guys would've hit the ground like bullets. Almost as crazy as dropping porn on Adolf to drive him insane!

quote from site:
"A further version of the device was developed which deflected the bullet through 90 degrees. This was intended for use as a close-defence weapon by armoured vehicle crews; however it was found that bullets fired through it generally fragmented due to the stresses involved."

heheh

my choice would be the Heinkel 111 "Zwilling" http://www.2iemeguerre.com/avions/heinkelzwillig.htm
Or the BF109Z "Zwilling" http://www.luft46.com/mess/me109z.html

Yeah Ronnie I know there was a twing mustang too :P but I just dont like it as much ;)

Now that's just uncalled for. If someone could find the reference, that beast deserves to be modeled.

This is my favorite area of military history. Among the most noted are Project Habakkuk (the aircraft carrier made of ice)
Project Habakkuk (http://strangeweaponoftheweek.com/project-habakkuk.html)

Another good one is the Goliath Tanks used by the Nazis

The Folding Machine Gun (http://strangeweaponoftheweek.com/category/folding-machine-gun) also seems like a pretty obscure weapon, even though it is not in use or has a manufactured model other than those used by Magpul.

The ice ship idea was one that came to mind but I have always thought the Carrier Pigeon Guided Missile was odd. Was funded as well but never produced (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_Pigeon). I remember some odd program on Discovery once that showed the early days of guided weapons. They showed early German TV and wire guided weapons which were being developed at the same time.

The Curtiss / Sperry Aerial Torpedo is another good one. I think someone here modeled that?
