hi all trying to make my first tank it probleby wont be 100% accurate (at least i have the topic title right )using blueprints of an early type g (i think) and got some ref pics from a type g but it looks difrent here and there so i have no clue on how it will evolve anyways here's a first render not much to see yet but got to start somewhere right any tips c&c or whatever might be helpfull is very welcome ;)
Hi!
Good start! As far as tips / C & C go, it's a bit early to say. There does appear to be a crease at the recoil end of the barrel (either that or I've got to clean my monitor again).
Looking forward to seeing more.

Can you provide some images of the tank to compare to? I can't seem to find any on google.
Looking good so far

decided to restart the thing as it was going to be a mess found some better prints of the g version got a problem tho on my prints and every plastic kit i can find the cupola hatch opens to the rear side of the tank (sounds pretty logic to me) but on a ref picture from a real one the hatch opens to the front side what is the correct one or is the one i have a picture from made on a monday morning  cant imagine someone took the effort to turn that thing around for fun

Theres a certain combat logic to it openning forward.
The early models are confusing as theres only a few differences and often the parts were overlapped on the prod line. So A n B can be confused as can C n D.
I thought by the time they got to G models, short barrel gun fitting was over? Could be wrong, though, certainly not an expert.
You find a lot of early stug stuff researching Gross Deutschland. They used them in combat as early as France.

That might be a STUH, Sturmhaubitze (sp?). Don't quote me on it though, as I've never seen one before, just read about it.

A STG III. If you ever played Squad Leader it was the tank you always ended up with as the Germans. Rarley do you see Tigers and Panthers it is usually the STG III. Got to like it after a while because of its small size. I have been wantign to do one myself.

It seems by the render of the roof your modelling a late production StuG III Ausf. G. The shorter thicker barrel is indeed the StuH III so I would ignore that gun. The gun mantlet should be of the cast type "saukopf" with its rounded surface although there were instances of the box mantlet being used. There were two types of saukopf: one with an mg port and one without (the most common).
The commander's cupola should have armour on the front of it. Regarding the backwards hatch, initially they had a rotation platform for the periscopes and hatch which was later replaced with a fixed cupola, then again replaced with the rotating one. The superstructure roof was either welded, attached by bolts or countersunk bolts. The nahvertigungswaffe (the close defence weapon with the elliptical opening was actually raised above the roof surface and could be roataed abd fired by the StuG's loader. The mount for the remote mg (which is immediately in front of the loader's hatch—the later sideways opening hatch) was discontinued but still featured on the roof. It was replaced by the original mg shield of the earlier StuG IIIs and IVs. If you look for Hetzer photos you should find some good examples of the remote mg.
The hull you've made is of the early type with bolted on thicker front armour. This was welded on loader's side on the late model.
That's about all for now. Any questions are welcome.
