Here, the spanish version of Leopard 2 A6EX, but with somes variants on electronic components, like the Indra optics or Lince system and all kits of armour on, this Leopard is the most armoured leopard of alls, Top & Down.
And have Air Aconditioned  , in Spain is welcome.
First the wheels system , then the rear zone, then the engine zone, etc.

Certainly prolific aren't you?!

Looking forward to your progress - are you aiming for the same level of detail as Flakmonkey's Leopard?

good start indeed Karras, no doubt it'll be finished in record time too. I dont know how you and Flakmonkey do such detailed armour models in such short time:)

Yep, I remember seeing it pre-crash and wondering whether I should give up!

Good question Gareth - so how do you do it?

heheh nice start :)

Somehow the wheels look like they are getting smaller to the back=/ must be because its iso or something

Looking good Karras! I always enjoy your work.
When it comes time for texturing, could you give us a look at how you do it? Your comment about doing it a bit differently has me curious...

Well, with authorization of FlakMoneky , I used his grille and some object more of his Leopard 2A4 ( sorry for my poor english ). They are perfect work .

I added the armored kit on front hull, lights, Driver Trap and the hull it's finished now :-) Some retouchs maybe.......
The next will be the turret.

Karras

Nooooooooooooooo
It's a bump map texture like the original model, some type of adhesive for thermal use.
Maybe I use too up the level proof :\

Totally fantasic job, so far, Karras!

Your rendition of the rubberized sleeve is perfect, don't change a thing!

Will keep watching this with envy.

<sigh>! Maybe one day I will be able to do work this good.

Thanks for sharing you WIP with us!

Thanks Warloc.
Simply it's a procedural map of wood , basic of MAX :)

Karras

Step by step, is a hard work this tank. The TOP of turret it's a very complicated, with a lot of iron in blocks, and no so good references, but go away ;)
Now the first kit of aditional armoured on Top and the reference cylinder for the periscope, the Visor of shoot in basic form and other visor. Then I build the base of the electrical traps for the Chief and MG-3 and the second kit of armoured Top ( sides of thoses bases).

Here are some images that might help you a bit with the turret.
The bore evacuator is actually a hard fiberglass thing, not rubbery at all, but you have the look of it down pretty well I'd say.

Karras
08-20-2006, 10:28 PM
Thanks jmoores, but..... the traps of the turret of Leopard 2E & STRV-122 are more different to Leopard 2A6, they are electrical power no manual, see here them, and the bore evacuator texture ;)

Spinner

So there is a hose clamp type of fitting at the front of that material?

jmoores
08-21-2006, 2:12 AM
They are quite different aren't they...interesting.

Spinner; the whole barrel is covered with a thermal sleeve, and the bore evacuator is connected to that with some kind of fitting. If I remember correctly its a steel collar, not a hose clamp type of deal.

Incase you didn't know, the barrel actually has a series of small holes in it where the bore evacuator is located, which I thought was pretty cool when the mechanics showed me.

Two versions for the turret Leopard 2E ( more bigger ) & STRV-122 ( still without Galix system ).

Karras
09-06-2006, 10:50 PM
Near to finish :)

With the original colour base of Spanish Army , nearly ( without camouflage ).

The trap doors of turret they aren't electrical, they close/open manually, in the STRV, Leopard 2E and Leopard 2A6 EX.

Very nice - you'll not miss it on a dark night; that lighter green is almost sickly!

Good work mate.

Karras
01-28-2007, 3:38 PM
And this other LightGreen ?

Lukem
01-28-2007, 4:11 PM
Don't quote me on this, but I think the first one is closer - I know they use a strange shade of green. Unfortunately, the one Swedish tank I've got a picture of looks to be painted dark green overall.

Karras
01-28-2007, 4:18 PM
Well, but this I like to me
The first it's more italian lightGreen and now it's more real, I think.

The STRV-122 B
and now I will go to integrate it in a forested picture :)

Lukem

Nice work mate! I do like the splashes of mud at the front - but I still think that the green on part of the barrel looks a bit illuminous. Could you darken that bit up a touch? Also could you post a render of the tank without background with a bit of Fresnal Reflection, like was mentioned on your other thread? I'd be interested to see how it works.

Keep up the good work mate!

Karras
01-29-2007, 11:29 PM
My last update, now with Metal material and retextured the gun.
What is "Fresnal Reflection" ? I don't know it

Difficult to describe - when you look straight down on a surface you don't see it, but if you look at the same surface at an angle it almost looks like it's got a coating. C4D has a special fresnal shader; I'm not sure how you would do it in Max - be careful how you use it though. I had a brief play with it and it made the object look wet, but if you get the settings right your tank will look more realistic (especially when combined with a photographic background).

Hope that helps a bit - and yes, your barrel looks much better now!:)
