I'm pretty stumped here. I've been working on this 767-300ER (which I'll turn into an E-767) for a while now and I'm almost done with it.

This has mesh smoothing applied to it. I'm not entirely done with the model yet so I don't want to collapse the stack... How would I best go about getting the angular windows while keeping the smooth surface of the airliner?

I always collapse the stack and cut the windows out of the high poly mesh. Make sure you save copies of your low poly cage saved first in case you have to go back to it at some stage.

Trying to model the windows in the low poly cage and keep everything smooth with mesh smooth is time consuming process and requires considerable skill. Too much for me anyway !

On an airliner with so many windows, you may even want to consider using an alpha channel.

I'm not sure about 3ds, but in Modo I would go back to straight poly, cut out the windows, then edgeweight, edge bevel, and loop slice until the window edges were sharp.
