I notice often when I render, my models cast funny shadows, often just parts of them cast shadows, like say a propeller blade, only the part farthest away from center cast shadow. The closer to the hub, the shadow dissapears. Anyone know (out of their head) what causes it?
I am not at home now so I cannot post examples..

Maybe state your application and current lighting setup, to get some help on this topic.

Opps didn't notice I had lost it after the crash... 3DS 5.
The problem seems to occur in many light setups, it's like a painter that hadn't enough black colour when he did a painting and stopped halfway on the shadows... :)

Try looking at the shadow resolution setting on the lights. In Cinema 4d, at least, you can change the resolution of the shadows cast. I used to have a similar problem, and increasing the shadow resolution fixed that.

Lower your shadow map bias value. Or use raytraced shadows.

If that doesn't help, post a picture of the problem and I am sure we can work it out.
