I have done in the past with a character model, that was on a computer controlled milling machine, pretty cool ! Not suited for small details unless you can wait for days. It was made out of a very high density plastic.
Thank for infos kiwi 123....;)

I regularly do work for a US client building meshes for Rapid Prototyping. Typically, they are pieces for desktop-gaming and have ranged from 80mm in length down to 9mm in length (and still quite detailed).
The type of prototyping that you can use varies greatly and can range from minium detailing of 1mm down to 0.1mm. The 0.2mm min detailing tends to be the most 'average' for pricing.
Try taking a look at www.xpress3d.com - they are an internet service that farms out the actually work to the company nearest you. They also have an online facility by which you can test your meshes for 'watertightness' and gives you a rough estimate based on the various methods available.
Their FAQ pages should give you a good grounding in the various types of materials, machines and costs available.
[edit] argh! I just look at the member list viewing this thread - Gery and Spinner. I don't think I need to say what I first read it as..!

It depends on which printer is used. and how big you print the project. Some printers rpint rough some are very smooth. The smooth ones will charge a bunch more.
