Just a heads up that Mudbox (http://www.mudbox3d.com/) has their new site up.
Those unfortunates who arent on the beta team will be as interested as I was in this video (http://www.mudbox3d.com/featurehighlights.html), in the 'feature highlights'.
In a thread on CGTalk, the mudbox guys promise hobbyists a mudbox price point that wont force you to sell your stereo to get it. A bit vague, perhaps, but still promising that they're thinking that way!
I would've liked to see the view orbitted in that vid as well as how fast the brushes update. Sometimes you learn as much from what you're not shown as what they do.

I remember seeing that piece of art from Jaques on the luxology site:

amazing stuff. Mudbox looks pretty promising.

That's an odd image... Some bits look super real while other bits don't convince at all - esp. the eyes.

I agree.
I feel it'd work better if I didnt already have such a strong idea of how Ben Kingsley 'should' look.

Mudbox looks great! Another app. that might interest you guys is Silo2x. Still in beta atm but I have been playing with it a fair bit lately and it's mesh displacement painting is pretty cool. At $109 it's pretty decent too!

Would you consider Silo a better modelling tool than Modo ?

Not for what I normally do, but for characters, etc. it's certainly up there. It's UI is very simple and straight forward, it's open GL performance seems very fast. It's a nice program to use, but I find Modo is better suited to the more precise type of modelling I do from day to day.

Cheers Evan, I am interested in one of these type of programs to improve the quality of my pilots so I'll download and give it a go....price is more than reasonable. I find it too time time consuming to model clothing folds etc poly by poly.

Yeah, I know what you mean :D Exactly what I had in mind when I mentioned Silo. Figured at the least it would be a great tool to add that extra detail to our pilots. I'd imagine Mudbox would have a much more advanced toolset but I think Silo's pretty good for it's price!

Exactly what I thought when I saw it. Still, it's a nice piece of work.
