Hi all,

maybe some of you have done this but i'm killing myself trying to export my max 8 file to cinema 4d. i don't want to go the 3ds route as that kills my naming convention and the client hates it. i've looked at okino and at deep exploration... but.. though it's possible to import from cinema4d it's not possible to export to it.

FBX is not an option, at least... i've mever gotten it to work...

any ideas????

TIA

KC

VRML format should be your friend in this case. Usually imports cleanly though you will need to check things over to make sure you haven't got dodgy polys etc - but thats just the normal import and conversion routine.

Tried OBJ yet? You need to experiment a bit with the in/export settings as some settings do weird things. SMoothing group management is a bit dodgy too, but otherwise it's pretty solid.
VRML is very 20th centruy but perhaps it might just work! :) Not sure what it'll do to your smoothing groups tho!

Cinema used to be good loading in Lightwave scenes and objects. That could be a route as well.

thanks guys.... obj is not such a good one due to the smoothing groups. client knows nothing. i'll give VRML a try... never used this one though... lightwave would be best.... i'll let y'all know... thanks again

I've had to go from C4D to max and back several times and never really had a problem with .obj files (except for modeling errors I made in max). You need to export as quads. What do you mean with smoothing groups being the problem? All you have to do is apply the phong tag and everything is fine.

I'd forgotten that the latest versions of MAX have obj support - last time I needed to export something I was using MAX 6 I think, which did not have that - but if it doesn't work right I still say try VRML!

Freeware OBJ plugins have been available since MAX 2 I believe :)

Thanks again for the tip Martocticvs!
