Hi, hear is the nearly finished model of the beautiful SMS Lützow. The Lützow had a short but distinguished career, she was badly damaged in the Battle of Jutland. Hit by a estimated 24 heavy-caliber shells. The crew could not control the flooding in the fore ship and the ship was abandoned early the next morning. Not very many photos have survived of the ship and many of those are in poor condition. Photos taken on the ship itself are very rare. I have used material that has been given to me try and make a reasonable precise model of this great ship.

Hallo Scupper.
I think the detail on S.M.S. Lützow is excellent. I like the searchlight and 8.8cm Flak too. These ships are the best looking of all WW1 ships. The German light grey colour also looks very good. I love the decks scenes of this and v.d.Tann.

Victory / Cobra 6/ simyevil ...Thanks allot!

I don't think I have finished any ship there is always more detail that could be added. Things I need to make are: ventilator outlets by the rear 8,8's, several small boats, the system to protect the propellers, small details around the bridge and I would like to model the setup of how the torpedoes were lowered below deck . The textures do need more work, they are quit simple, There could be allot more work done, dirt and rust for example. I tend to model things that could be done with textures. Its sometimes quicker to do so. I am interested in showing what these ships were like close up, I think I can skip the rust.

Cheers scupper

Well all have that problem to an extend of having to keep ourselves back from over modelling stuff :) Good luck with finishing it!

That is so great to the the beautiful Lützow come to life like this.
It's a wonderful model and you've done a great job recreating Scheer's pride, Schupper!

I like Lützow without rust or "aging" textures. He was a new ship and there wasn`t much time to wear out. I almost feel like I could walk the decks. I like all the renders models, Fuso, v.d.Tann etc but this is my favourite. Prost!

I think almost all major ships of the Hoch See Flotte were all very handsome looking ships (perhaps apart from the hybrid "Blücher") The pre-dreadnoughts "Helgoland" class were all good lookers, as also with the big "Kaiser" class battleships and of course not to forget the big sisters "Bayern" and "Baden".
One of the sadest but still impressing photos from the era must be the aerial shot where the Hoch See Flotte are surrendering themselves over to the Royal Navy at the armistice. Seeing that endless line of huge dreadnoughts passing between units of the british fleet.
I live in "fjord Norway" and the german imperial navy used to fill our fjords the summers before WW1. They used to visit here for the most of the summer for many years. I think the locals here had a soft spot for that navy because of these long visits, there could of course be many a reason to that :D

Here is one photo, showing what I believe is the SMS Mecklenburg and a sister, around 1910.

Let me congratulate on this beautiful rendition and for the Von der Tann model as well. Smply amazing!

I hope you will post more images when they are ready.

Also a question: would it be possible to have a few of these, showing the whole ship, in 1920X1080 resolution? I've put up the Von der Tann 03 image as my background - now if you would be kind enough to do a shot/render of the Lützow from that same angel (starboard forward 20 degress) I would be really thankful!

Thanks again and have a nice day (you certainly made mine!)

Two more renders, this time orthographic views. Sorry but photobucket has reduced the render size from the original 5496 X 2601 down to 1023 X 465

If you have noticed that the four forward 8,8 guns are not on the model. The reason is that they had not been fitted on the Lützow before the ship was sunk. There is no photo showing the forward 8,8's in place.

Best regards to all

These two renders are beautiful, Lützow surely was one of the real fighters of Jutland. Her career somehow reminds me of Bismarck's. She fought bravely and lethal, and due to her position in the fleet as a flagship, took a greatest pounding from her rivals and was sunk by her own whenthere was no hope of saving her. A sad end to a gallant fighter.

Scupper, your model is way too good. After seeing it, I regained my strength to do more modeling of my own ship. Hopefully I could push my model to your level some day soon.

By the way, if you like to have a place to host your renderings, you could consider http://dreadnoughtproject.org where some of WWI dreadnought lovers share their works. :) I am a member too.

By the way 2, what reference you use to do this level of details?

Hi Maxyang,

my research consists of books, Internet and begging. Without a good set of plans and clear photos accuracy suffers. It's good that there are kind enthusiasts around that are willing to help.

Thanks for your kind words.... scupper
