There are a couple of threads that were (IMHO) very important - and while I know it's lots of work, I'd like to see if we can get these again. (or if they exist on an old backup?)
Perhaps we can make a list in this thread and ask the people who originally created them to re-write them?
1. Kevjon's modeling tips/compilation (lots of people wrote in it, but Kevjon "edited" it)
2. Skyraider3d's Texturing thread(s)
3. Aceman's gunports thread.

2. Was available on my website. At the moment it's down (as it was hosted by mil-mesh) but it will be back up again the moment my domain is working again.

I think in future if we have such good threads that obviously helping a lot of people, we should be looking at the possibility of changing them into PDFs. Should anything like this happen again, then hopefully, they should be restored very quickly. There's nothing to stop us adding more into the thread below it and eventually merging that into the thread.

I was about to do exactly that with the three threads mentioned. In the two days it took for me to re-install Acrobat on my box, the site went down.:(
A painfull lesson on prevaricating.
Anyone in contact with Kevjon?

I have all that data for the "3D tips - best of" intact so no problem reposting it. There were a lot of links in that thread which will no longer work so give a me a few days to recompile the information and I'll repost.
The biggest loss was all those other useful threads in the obstacle course.
- Propellor blur
- Lighting setups
- Subdivision modelling solutions
- Skyraiders texturing tutorial.
- How to create afterburner effects.
So many useful tips.....gone
I have most of these threads saved to my hard drive, so I have all of the words, but none of the attached images in the thread. Anyway I'll see what I can do about reposting them or compiling them into the 3D tips thread.
Skyraiders Texturing tutorial thread & subdivision modelling solutions thread, I will leave for him to repost when he has time.

Be still my beating heart.:D
I'm just coming to grips with 3dsmax and have worked my way through Essentials8 and 8Bible. However its very diferent to my previous little modelling proggy and I'm struggling to work out a new work flow with it. Your 3D tips distillation is like water in the desert and oh so cruelly snatched away;)
No rush, yesterday would be nice.:D
Help me get rolling at a decent standard and maybe I can add some content here too. Hangar's looking a bit bare atm.

Aceman restored my domain (thank you! :D) and the texturing tutorial is back on my website: http://skyraider3d.military-meshes.com/skyraider/tut_advtexmap.htm
I'll stick a copy of it in the boot camp, later tonight.
