I've looked for the picture kiwi123 was refering in the thread "Hero" without succes, but I found this site :

Most of the pictures and movies concern planes: some are :lol: , others are :eek: and some :(:cry:

Is it a test or a "mistake" ?

First, that site does not support hotlinking, so that second address won't play - you need to go to the site then manually select the animation.

I'd say it was a really bad mistake and the missile locked on to the A4 as soon as it was launched. It may have been a test, with the A4 acting as a chase aircraft, but what happened probably wasn't part of the program - I can't see them testing a missile lock-on that close as you'd be endangering both aircraft. You can also see the A4 pilot instinctively start to pull away as soon as he sees the missile - just not fast enough.

Looks more likely that this is a testfire where the missile malfunctions, the rocket doesn't power up, is dragged away by the speed and hits the A4.

If it would have been live it would have destroyed both aircraft I think.

That movie doesn't play on my machine for some reason. But I know it anyway. It was indeed some kind of weapon test that went hopelessly wrong with the chase aircraft being the victim of it all. The A-4's phenomenal rollrate got even better :)

If that's a missile, that would be the strangest missile I have ever seen. It looked like a body panel to me, since it was pretty flat and wide.

Check out the MD80_Hard_Landing.mpeg How frightening that must've been for the passengers. And I'm getting on a plane tomorrow =\ I just hope there aren't any snakes on it.
