View Full Version : My first Camel updated.
Well I posted the beginnings of a Sopwith Camel here some time ago. I keep having a go at it when I have time and it is not finished yet. But here it is so far. Things like materials, lighting, spec maps and general dirtying it up are a little to be desired, oh and a few modelling issues. But it's getting better I think? I started out Oil painting and thought I'd have a go at 3d modelling. Both are equally frustrating and rewarding. Trying to tame a ray tracer or putting a paintbrush to canvas are equally difficult Phew.....?
Tools used :- Blender 3d 2.49 and The Gimp.

Looks good to me - I haven't ventured into the texturing bit yet but you appear to have made a great start.
Thanks for the comments folks. I have also started to model a Fokker DR1 as well. Got an idea for a scene. Maybe post that up here sometime. It's amazing the time you do trying to research your subjects. I have recently bought some Osprey books covering WW1 aircraft. Getting pretty interested in the subject!

Hi BUTTS
I'm a WW1 fanboy aswell. I've made heaps of low poly models in Blender, but right now I'm making a Fokker Dr1 in Lightwave. Are the Osprey books good as references? I have found getting reliable references for the Dr1 to be a nightmare as none survived the 20th century.
P.S. I'm just about to post some working renders of my Fokker.

Your best resource for WWI aircraft is the Windsock datafile series (http://www.windsockdatafilespecials.co.uk/). Nearly all of them contain good plans to work from and close up period photos of the major details.

Heey I missed this one :) Looking nice, although a little bit plasticy. Any updates?

Thanks again. Going to have another go with an external renderer rather then Blender internal when I get the time.
