Hey everybody. Just started working on a British Hurricane circa 1943. Just wanted to show what I have and see who can help me as I go. There are certain areas where I usually have considerable problems such as the wing root, canopy and landing gear so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Here's what I have so far.

nice start i love the Hurricane, are you going to do the desert hurribomber version with the big 20mm cannons :D That ones great.
Have a look in the obstacle course there some great stuff for some of your problem areas:D

Looks like a decent start indeed. Great to see another 3D Hurri. There aren't too many.
I agree with Paul that the desert models are great. I actually quite like the 40mm Bofor equipped anti-tank model, as well as the Mk.IV with rockets.
Here's (one of) the thread(s) Paul referred to: http://www.military-meshes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=89

Its a good start but tailplane looks very thick and could do with a bit of thinning. Really like the Hurricane too (all versions).

So I've decided to go into a little more detail with this model then previously. This is what I have so far. I didn't get a chance to get to the rest of the panels, rivets, exhaust. I wanted to get some crits now before I got too far along.

looking good as far as I can tell, are you going to copycat my BF109 modelling technique :P?

Looks very good. I wouldn't recommend making the plane panel by panel as cobra found out it is very hard to keep the whole shape from becoming distorted. It would probably be best model the fuselage largely in one piece, get the shape smooth and accurate, once happy collapse the mesh to high poly and then add the detail including the panel lines.
I'm sure you'll find out along the way the best method that works for you...hope the suggestion helps.

@cobra6 - I am copying the technique of the 109, but I'm not going panel by panel. I realized after an hour of trying that how hard it would be. So, instead I create the full fuselage and cut it into large chunks. From there I add cuts for the horizontal panel lines and extrude/bevel for the illusion of panel seams.
@kevjon - I haven't found any one technique that I really like for modeling planes yet. So, I'm browsing the forums for methods and I'm trying every one I see until I find one that suits me best. So any recommendations or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Don't know if this will help you with the fixings of the nose panels

I've put the basics of my modelling techniques in "3D tips best of" in the obstacle course. The rest just comes down to working through it polygon by polygon and vertex by vertex. The car tutorials are also quite good for learning modelling techniques also.

kevjon, looks like I may have to take your advice after all. The fuselage is starting to get away from me. The line is not smooth anymore and I'm running into a lot of problem areas. Also, it seems my line drawing is horribly off.
Does anybody happen to have or know where I could find a nice ACCURATE detailed line drawing of a Hurricane?

There are factory drawings available, but these are a lot cheaper and far more usable: http://www.albentley-drawings.com/hurricane.htm
PS. Here's a great tutorial, though written for MAX, will also be useful for Cinema4D users:

I'm currently using Squadron/Signal Publication "Walk Around" books and their drawings never seem to be that accurate for some reason. I still have a bunch of those books left over from my scale modeling days.
Where could I find factory drawings?

They're well expensive though... You might be able to get some info from the small previews in the image search.
To be honest, In Action drawings are usually nothing short of rubbish. I will have a look at home if I got better ones.

I'll second the Bentley drawings recomendation - I've got a set, and they are great! (Now if only I could find time to use them!)

I'll take a look at the Bentley drawing. Hopefully these will be more useful than the other ones I've found.
Thanks.
I dont know if you have this already but i would recommend this book , its unbeatlable for the price,

I believe Bentley uses factory drawings as his reference. His drawings should be some of the most accurate around.

CopyZone in the UK has copies of all surviving drawings for Hurricane and as Skyraider said they are not cheap.I paid 250 pounds for them all. I am using them to 3d Build the aircraft from the frame up. When it is finished it will be an animation bulid from frame to skin to show how the aircraft was built.

Very nice! 250 pounds / 500 dollars is more than I would like to spend and I definitely don't need anything that detailed, but I've been looking at the Bentley drawings and I already emailed him about getting a large print. Although, him being in the UK it may take awhile before I see them. Until then, I'm continuing with the drawings I have.
