I present Aliens Dropship and APC variants for my copy of crysis , via the sandbox 2 editor

all models were completed one year ago , i started building the Apc in december 2009 , and finished all the variants and dropship in january 2010

for copyright and i.p purposes , these are private hobby models , and not for profit , and not to be an aliens mod !

models were built as they are iconic 3d military vehicles, specifically built for my copy of crysis , from one of my all time fave movies - aliens 2 )

apc variants are from imagination , and an alternative apc images website , eg 6 wheel variant , also mini apc , and the different weapon configurations on the apcs !

the apc was built 1st , and vehicle was scaled to the nanosuit player model , to allow player to enter interior freely and move about , the models are all shelled , enterable , and fully physicalised .

note if you view on youtube ,aliens 2 movie footage of the apc , you will note characters have to crouch in the apc vehicle , i did not want this for crysis !

so my apc is bigger to allow player to stand inside etc , therefore it follows , when placing a bigger apc into the payload bay of the dropship , the dropship needs to be bigger to accomodate it !

therefore the dropship , has a larger internal cockpit etc in crysis , than in the movie ,and is reachable via an internal staircase !

interiors of the models are decorated with crytek 3d objects from sandbox 2 , notably amended items as follows , various computer screens , chairs , dashboard , steering wheel , and other miscellaneous items to create an appropriate interior for the models in game , also the sparrow missile launcher was used
- full credit to crytek for these used items )

dropship can load the apcs aboard . as well as crysis tanks and jeeps etc and troops as well !dropships fly in game as per the vtol !

polys counts as follows
landed dropship 43600 polys
standard movie apc - 39600 polys

all models are 1 single cgf and perform sweet in sandbox 2 )
models currently unskinned / unanimated .

The dropship is definitely too huge. It is especially visible when u compare the size of the soldier and the cockpit.

well you get the prize for the only reply !

thanks for the utterly pointless comment , if you actually bothered to read what i posted above in the description of what i did and why , in relation to the player and model sizing , there is no need to state the obvious !

and actually using these models in game , and being the player , the sizing of the vehicles against the player is actually spot on , purely becoz , to make them smaller , means the player can't access the interior of the apc !

i could easily remove the interiors of both models , and size them down to correct movie size , and guess what ,the player can't get inside the shelled body of the apc , and the shelling was done to minimum thin setting !

if you have nothing constructive to say rather than state the obvious , and what has already been stated and explained by me , then please in future don't bother to comment on my stuff

cheers

lol, your reply seems like trolling :P
That is NOT the way you write on a professional discussion forum especially to someone who is actually more experienced (and seemingly more senior) in this subject than you are ;)

In a case when you think the comment was irrelevant you'd better just verify if you got it right and ask for some clarification if the comemnt could be explained with more details.
And there r reasons I wrote that comment btw.

Yes, scaling up objects in order to make certain content fit inside them is a common thing and is totally ok.
However, usually most objects/vehicles/architecture etc. have some elemnts which cannot follow the same scaling as the rest of the geometry.
Basic example: a house. If you scale up the house 2 times you need to actually add 2 times more floors as 5 story building cannot become twice higher without becoming a 10 story building.
Now, that is of course an easy example.

But in case of vehicles there often elements which cannot simply become 2-3 times bigger either.

Especially if hose elements are inspired by real-life ones. Sci-fi concept often use some real-life shapes in order to make the object more beliavable. Such elements r also used for scale definition as our eye automatically picks them up and the memory instantly brings associations with what we used to see.

But since such element usulally have more or less same size in real life they r very sensitive to harsh scaling.

The aliens dropship is not an exception.
A dropship cockpit is a good example for that.

That cockpit is obviusly inspired by modern day attack helis like Apache or Cobra.
Therefore if you considerably scale up the main hull of your dropship (the design of which is not that sensitive to scalng) you can't scale the cockpit by the same rate as it will completely break the perception of the size.
You still can scale it to make player fit or whatever, but you should not surpass certain treshold.

Yes, it will result in some differences compared to the original reference but there is something that need to be chosen: stick precisely to the concept or adjust some proportions to make more room for characters/vechicles to fit in.

Basically the scheme is like that: you make a model based on your ref. Then, if u find that size is say too small for some purposes you scale it. Most shapes' design will not be too sensitive to scaling and will look quite ok even with considerable scale compared to the original reference. But some parts are very sensitive to scale and can be scaled very carefully and as less as possible.
So u have watch for those.

voila.

I will kinda discard your childish reply and will consider it as some temporary shitty mood (maybe that was not your day or something). But in the future you should be watching how you write to ppl concerning your work as your work is not perfect and clearly shows a beginner's level.

Otherwise u might end up just staying at the level which you are at right now and stay within you bubble.

You r lucky becuase there are not that many ppl watching/caring about this low-res forum section because the forum is more about hi-res stuff rather than lowres. So you replies won;t get much exposure to the community.
But usually after such childish unprofessional replies ppl rather need to create new profile cauz their future posts will be ignored and/or simply laughed at. Believe me I've seen a fare share of those on actual game art forums ;)
