Hey Everyone,

I know recently that we've been getting A LOT of spam posts to the forums. And let me tell you, Cobra is like a tiger waiting to pounce. Before I can even get online to help out.. the issue's been handled. So Kudos to Cobra and his quick reflexes.

To resolve the issue of spammers, I'm going to be investigating a few new registration methods to prevent or make it harder for the bots to register for the site and then post. Short of manually approving all new registrations this is the best option to keep the place automated and still allow REAL people with a passion for military 3D to register and participate in this great community.

I'll keep everyone posted and I hope to have an update for you soon. I'm even considering upgrading the forums software but the cost associated with that is prohibitive for me at this time. But I'll look into it.

Thanks again.

Wow.. the bots really turned it on today.

ALL NEW registrations are now being manually vetted by me. The system will notify me of any new registrations. For the next few days I will be manually approving all new users. Hopefully this will discourage the bots.

I've also installed new set of registration questions.

Here is hoping!

Chris.

Thanks for the kudos :D Try to help out as good as I can, but some days I am just not online, like at the attack yesterday.

My vote for a system is this: Everyone's first post needs to be manually approved by a mod. With that system spammers will just not get a chance. This system is also in force on CG-talk and it works like a charm.

That sounds like a great idea. I've got it set so that I manually approve all new registrations. 6 today for example - but your idea may be better.
