Scroll down to reply #27 for the latest version of this... thing! :D

Mustang and Corsair fans, close this post while you can! :D

Inspired by Wiek's Merlin-powered Fokker G.1 and D.XXI Zwilling, I made a monster of my own. Apologies for the sacrilege! :p

If anything, this baby will never overheat (or stall with all that wing area)!

Enjoy!

Back to my real Corsair now...

PS. Wiek, please re-post your monsters!

PPS. Anybody else who feels like combining some of their models, please go ahead and show us!

Mutant mustang on steroids is a description often used for the CAC Kangaroo. It's on my list of things to do.

I need to re-render it though, with raytraced reflections and some beefed up textures.
It's a really nice machine. If you need some references, give me a holler. Mine weren't that great (bad quality scan of nice drawings, plus some photos), but it's about all I could find.

Nice Work.. Like it..
But maybe, (My opinion) try to work more on your textures of the plane..
For the rest great work..

Hehe, it doesn't have textures, just a procedural material. I won't bother texturing it as it was just a joke and I don't wish to spend more time on it :) I kinda liked the metallic primer look though.

That's pretty wicked looking!

Funny - I think this kind-of "works" - (Visually at least) - it would have been a LOT uglier with the fuse of the Corsair and the wings of the Mustang.

The only ugly thing it that primer paint job...

Corsair with Mustang wings would almost look like a Bearcat ;)

Zinc-chromate primer is cool :D

Would look great with flapping wings. Strong seagull overtones already.;)

It is pregnant, right ?

If it is, can I get the offspring? And has it been mating with any OTHER planes? I mean, who let this genetic mix out in the first place! :)

Good looking, even if weird.

I think you should have put the corsair tailplane on it as well.

Well, this is very nice Skyrauder!
Another way to express the art of modelling in 3d, not only follow the real planes but also invent something new... and very good done!!
BTW.. you say that will never stall with his big wings surface.. could you model one for my simulator XPLANE, so i will never fall from the sky all the time i take off with my plane? ( joke:lol:  )
Anyway, congratulation for this new entry!

Cheers guys :D

All credit for the mix-n-matching should go to Wiek (Kiwi123) as he started it with his Merlin-powered G.1. I'm sure he'll repost it once he returns from holiday.

Looks great Ronnie. Like the un-finished surface look. Merging the mustang with the ugly looking corsair (IMO) makes one decent looking aircraft :D

Great job Skyraider.

On request, I've mutated this beast a bit further still...

Hope it looks a bit better now, with squared-off wingtips and deleted airscoop :)

This is entirely to scale, so if anybody fancies some platic kit bashing... ;)

One question ??? The only reason the corsair was developed with the gull wing was to allow the enormous prop not to strike the ground ??? So the little prop on this looks too small maybe ??

Also the thickness of the aerofoil section just looks a little too thick compared to the slender mustang body.

And lastly i think the tail needs to be lengthened just a tad or possibly bring the wing forward to accomodate the big chord length you have given the wing ??? I have not studied theory of flight for many years so i could be wrong but it just looks a little odd ??

I know its just a concept so please feel free to dismiss my comments:lol: But overall its a real nice project and i do like it honest !!

You're absolutely right with your observations Paul. The Corsair had the biggest prop for a single engined fighter up to that point. The gull wing was to keep the gear short enough for carrier landings.

This was just a little gimmick, really. But it's kinda interesting :)

It's really elegant with that wing, but only in profile or headon view... A plan view spoil it all :\ maybe just reducing the wing chord would do something more "harmonious"... Now you have to find some markings. How bout a racer ? Imagine a multimillionaire whim, " Yeah I'm gonna mate a Stang fuselage with Corsair wings and win all the Reno races !"

Ronnie, you've killed Mustang:cry:.

I would be not surprised, if after 10 - 15 years we will find it in books about unrealised projects:lol:.
