To paraphrase the plaque on the Apollo 11 Lunar Modue: On July 20, 1969 men from the planet Earth first set foot upon the moon. They came in peace for all mankind.

After several Apollo missions to test the harware, navigation and maneuvers required for a lunar landing, the crew of Apollo 11 became the first to accomplish the goal.

The Apollo Lunar Module was the first true spaceship designed and flown by man. It could only operate in the vacuum of space. It not only served to ferry two men to and from the surface of the moon it also served as their temporary home for up to three days on later missions. In all, six Apollo missions landed on the moon.

Really nice composition.
Are there any stars visible at full-size or you intentionally kept it pitch black?

NB. Ever considered doing a B747/Space Shuttle image? The former should look glorious in its original polished metal suit.

Thanks Ronnie. Interesting you bring up the stars. I experimented with the idea of putting them in there but they were not generally visible because of the glare from the sun. All the astronauts reported they did not remember seeing stars. In the end I chose to leave it black just as it would appear to a viewer if they were standing on the moon watching the ship come in for a landing.

I also experimented with a more mountainous horizon but in the end I decided to make it look as authentic as possible to the actual Apollo 11 landing.

I have no plans to do the shuttle in transport unless someone decides to commission a piece specifically.
