First of all, hello everyone. I'm age 22, from Scotland. I registered here cos a friend of mine found this place and gave me the URL over msn half an hour ago. I liked what I saw so much I registered. :D

Well, this is what I'm working on at the moment, a model of the A15 Crusader I, a British tank which spent most of it's service life in North Africa. It's still heavilly WIP so no details at the back yet, just wanna know what you guys think of it so far.

Interesting tank to modell, a refreshing choice. lol
The dome nuts on your drive wheel seem out of proportion. The flat faces to dome ratio and clearance between nut and hub cap would benefit from some tuning. As always, the devil is in the detail.
British and Commonwealth tanks of the period were notorious for being bedecked with the crew's creature comforts. You've got heaps of choice for personalising this tank.

Thanks all.
The bolts and rivets I've used here are all wrong, I'm willing to admit it. At first they were modelled from photos which didn't make them out clearly, but following a recent visit to the bovington tank museum I now have good photos of the sorts of rivets and bolts used. They will be corrected soon.

I was thinking of using this sort of colour scheme with the texturing, but it's not a final decision yet.

Work is continuing on this. Slowly. The last 2 years I've had a few career changes, relocations, new projects, new computers... even a 6 month tour of Iraq.
But work on this is starting to pick up again, so wohoo!
Rivets are all correct, 5 different types. Front end is complete. Turret is nearly complete. Details at the rear are progressing. Still need to change the bolts and nuts on the wheels.

I'm not intimately familiar with the type but it looks excellent from a modelling standpoint.

It's been a real joy to model too. :) Also thanks to the staff at Bovington tank museum for letting me climb up on the back of their Crusader and Covenanter tanks to take turret roof photos :)

Texturing has started from the wheels up. Swapping the bolts for accurate ones as I go. Some other minor adjustments.

Why ruining it? You just apply colour first, and then a LOT of dirt:D The model is looking really nice. This is the second tank I found today on which I completely missed the progress =/

Why ruining it?

The statement meant I don't have a lot of confidence in my 2D texturing abilities. I'm not at all good at it :p

Review the central light, isn't than depth that your. See it . And your link tracks haven't any type of rounded corners.

I'm happy to see you decided to texture it. It is looking good to me so far. It happens to me too I often get to a point in a piece where I feel it is ruined. Keep on pushing through. The work is good. :)

Thanks guys.

Karras, Crusaders had several different lights.

The sample in the book I have here had an extruded lens like how I made it.

Also the treads on Melbourne (that green crusader you find photos of everywhere) are extremely worn. See attached the photo I've taken of the tracks on the crusader at Bovington. I'll be wearing mine back a little and rounding them off a bit when I get to texturing them.

It's looking good but I think the resolution of the Rhino logo is a it low and blurry. What is your texture resolution at the moment?

Cobra 6

killakanz
03-25-2012, 12:06 PM
the rhino is a bit blurry, the source image I got it from was a bit low res so I had to blur it a bit to hide the pixellation... didn't really come out good. I'm looking for a higher res one and will change it when I find one :p
