After a long consideration (cause I am not the same level as some of the pros here), I decided to open this thread. Yes, one more Tiger I model on this forum... LOL
Tiger I is my favorite WWII tank and it was my choice for my first 3D model ever. I searched the internet, talked with my friends, took a look in few books and gathered as much info on it as I could. I will skip the part about my resources and show you the model...

This was the middle stage of the creation:

After few tens of hours of hard working, cause this was my first attempt to model something, this was the result:

I hope you people will like this model and I really tried to do a good and very detailed work. It took me 2 whole months from start and all the info to model it and I think it is ok for a newbie like me...

And few wires:

Thx for your comments in advance.

Is that good or bad? :) :confused:

Anyway, I did my best on that tank...

Going to google that game now!

That is a good sign, and the game is really good IF you like a realistic tank simulator.

http://www.tanksim.com/reviews/t34vstiger.htm

The game itself has been discontinued since the studio went bust. However there is one modder who has been continuing to make campaigns and models for it.

Well, thank you for your nice words... By the way, I was playing World of Tanks few months ago and I said, ok, that is it, I must do a Tiger I model!

I am working on another tank model (which is my own design of MTB), but that is still a work in progress, so it will take a while.

Hi there.
It's looking good.

As another fan and modeller of the Tiger 1, I know how hard it is to find good reference images on the net, especially for the tracks.
So I took a few opportunities over the years to visit the Tiger at Bovington and made my own reference pictures.

Since I'm a nice chap, I'd be quite happy to offer you the photos I have on the Tiger's tracks.

If you need more, just ask.

By the way, some interesting points to remember when making the tracks: They're not symmetrical. Also, they're not mirrored to fit the other side, they're rotated.

@killakanz

Well, thx for the comment (espeacially for noticing the tracks) and your advice. I have few pics of the tracks myself and I know about tracks, that they are not symmetrical, etc... It is just that my machine wasnt good enough at the time when I did it and those on the model are the best possible for my computer to survive. :)

And as you know and as you said it, Tiger I has really nasty and complicated tracks and "wheel set".

Well, you said that you saw the real Tiger I and that you really like that tank, what do you think about my model, is it accurate enough? (I did my best, have like 200 pics and blueprints, 2 book pdfs, watched all the movies on the net and saw some 3D models too)

A very nice progress Wigen!
Nice details, maybe you could use some smoothing groups to smoothen the facet mesh. :)

@Wigen
Accuracy wise it's pretty good, apart from the tracks.

The only thing I'm really noticing right now is the bolts on your gun mantlet are flat, they're actually the same pointy ones you got on your commander's pistol port. Pic (http://www.derelictstudios.net/site/killasmods/kanzstudioz/modelimages/Tiger/real/Dscf0062.jpg)

Otherwise, as Der_Peiper said, smoothing groups need to be sorted all round. at the moment it looks like they're disabled.

Still though, awesome job for a first model ever. Took me 3 years before I could make something half as good.

@killakanz
Thank you both for your kind words! This is my first model and I ve been modelling for 2-3 months now, 4 at best. The second is that sniper rifle VHSS mod.2011 (http://www.military-meshes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5105) and that is pretty much it, other models are just in starting phase (I have a lot of 2d drawings I would like to model in 3d)
You are right about the smoothing. Most of the Tiger is done in AutoCAD and finished in 3ds so... :)
I am really good in 2d and with ACAD but this is my start in 3d world (switching to 3ds max)!

@killakanz
Good eye to see those bolts! :)

Very nice. Is this really your first ever project? Pffft, my first work wasn't 1/1ooth this good when I started. Heck, it might not be this good now! :D

What's your poly count?

And, what's your end goal for this? Display only? Artwork? CGI? "Just cuz"?

Wigen

@Stiglr
Yes, it really is my first work... Poly count is arround 800 000, at least it was when I last checked.
And what is the goal? Well, it started "just cuz", wanted to see how good I can do this, that is all. If I decide in the future, I ll redo few things to make it better and do the textures so I can get the best out of it, some art work, maybe a short video...

Wigen, would you mind attaching an image to your first post via the "advanced reply" panel so it shows up in the gallery?

I would really texture it if I were you, it's the finishing touch for a nice model like yours :) And there are some great camo schemes out there for it as well!

Something about the Tiger, it looks good from any angle doesn't it? :p

Wigen

When i make a texture my model deserves, that will be it... I ll change the tracks too and I hope that will make one really good model.

About the Tiger, yes, it just looks powerful and so damn dangerous, one mean machine.
