I'm a compositor so I'm new to modeling. I'm building the Gambier Bay for a personal project about the Battle off Samar. This is maybe a month's work so far done in my spare time. I've seen some impressive stuff on here so keep in mind I'm relatively new.
Cheers

Nice work so far. I finished reading Hornfischers "Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors" a couple of weeks ago, so the name stood out.

I seem to have missed this one, nice work! :) Like the top down view hehe.

Great idea for a project. Nice progress so far. I have a print from Naval Press, done by C. G. Evers - 'The Final Hour', showing the GB being bracketed with dye shells when she was attacked by Japanese battleships.

Hey, nice!
Looks fairly low-poly. May I ask details as to its construction?
I'm working on a flight sim that will incorporate the Battle of Leyte Gulf (of which the Samar battle was a big part!) and might be interested in something of a collaboration. PM me, please! :)

It is fairly low poly at this point. I'm always interested in a collaboration. I get back to the states in a few weeks and I'll be able to talk more then.
Helot - I know the print! I've been fortunate enough to exchange messages with some of the GB survivors including the gentleman who runs their website. Really interesting stuff.
Cobra 6 - thank you. I was wondering if you happen to know Victor or Andrzej1964. I've been trying to contact them about some of their Japanese ships. I've had trouble finding quality models of these ships on the usual model buying sites. I can pay.

The stb side with the temporary island and some progress I made on the more detailed bridge structure tonight after work. This job would be great if it wasn't for the work. Modeling takes forever! worth it though.

They are on CG talk too.
Nice update! What have you been doing with/for Disney then?

Not quite done, but I wanted to try a composite anyway.
If you're interested in the film this will be used for, check out the squidoo page we made:
