View Full Version : Moonlight Hunting
Somewhere over Germany heavy night fighter Ju88 is hunting for unaware of threat pathfinder mosquito. I decided to improve my old image and make it a bit more realistic.
Comments and critics are welcome.

This is a very peculiar image. It has a nice mood to it though. Only thing I don't like is the clouds on the bottom left which clearly is from a photo taken during daytime. It's a bit like how they used to shoot nightscenes in film... just film during the day but underexpose it. Doesn't work for me :)

it's too damned hard to see the plane. it looks like a cutout. no detail... and what Ronnie says about the light is true... though it does have potential as an idea, implementation needs improvment

I like it ! A very original approach that I've not seen before.
Thank You very much Guys :) and it's good to hear some critics words. Ronnie You right. Now I see what You mean. Indeed the sky looks weird (cheap trick in B-class films :)) Colin thanks. It's true there is no detail and it's hard to see the plane but this is something I wanted to achieve (maybe except the details :)). I focused on showing the mood and fighter that looks like a phantom. That is because I am treating this image as one of many others that creating one big scene - pathfinder interception. It is just like in storyboard (one of keyscenes). I just forgot that one image should tell a story that would be clear for everyone who doesn't know the whole. I have to remember this.
Thank You Wiek:)
I like it. It is one of this images, where "feeling", mood is more important then perfect details. But Ronnie has right with clouds. Very interesting for me.
I made some corrections regarding the sky:). Do You Guys think it looks better now?

I agree with kiwi,
peter, you changed thickness of hte cloud,it is just my opinion that
first one is I feel more moonlight atomosphere,IMHO.
thin cloud of the sky is I feel more moonlight mood, aren't you?

Thank You Akio:)
I'm a bit confused with this image (what means I have to work a bit more on it:)). From one side I like the first one because the sky in a bottom left part of the image (extended background) gives the balance to the claustrophobic rest of the image. But from the other side the sky looks cheap. What I did on the second image was the correction of the clouds (they needed the contrast between the light and shadow to be higher), but I think I lost a bit this wide backround.

Hmm no that's still not working for me I'm afraid. Perhaps a fuzzy glow would work better? Maybe even a red glow (from a burning city below). The clouds, besides looking odd, also force a perspective that doesn't seem to match the rest of the image. The whole image feels like you're looking down on the plane. A bit of burning city in that corner would work better, I think.

i still don't like the fact that we can't see the plane. i know it's atmosphere... but still... maybe just part of it in moonlight.... i'm not sure i agree about the whole city burning idea... that, imo, would detract from the idea behind it...

Thank You Ronnie and Colin for Your comments. Ronnie I think I've finally catched that. The longer I look at the image the better I see what You're talking about. Indeed the perspective looks a bit weird. I have to pay more attention to make the image more clear for the viewer. Till now the most important to me was just to show my impression. But when making visuals the readability should be the prioirity.
I will not decide to add the burning city:) because it would be at variance with the story. I will just focus on improvement this part of the image in some other way.
Colin
I will work on the details of the fighter soon:)
