Hey Skyraider.. I saw your pic of the P51 and bombers and the contrails.. how did you do that?

Anyone else know good ways to do contrails? Maya tips would be best.. but Ill still take 3D max ones.

Quite simple... Went out on a sunny day, waited for a plane to fly over and photographed its contrails. I photographed them at maximum zoom and stitched a few images together to make up a 12,000-pixel contrail photo. Turning blue sky into black I made the alpha channel for it.
This I then mapped onto a long multi-segmented plane, which I slightly curved to make it look more dynamic.

Great technique Ronnie. Might try a similar idea for creating a wake.

How'd you model contrails anyway? :)
For animation (http://skyraider3d.military-meshes.com/animations/mustang_anim01_wip01.mov) I use particles.


Great technique Ronnie. Might try a similar idea for creating a wake.For the only "boat (http://skyraider3d.military-meshes.com/skyraider/marlin_1.htm)" on my website (which is aaaaaaancient!) I used a displacement mapped wake AND particles :)
