I've looked in several references and can't really find a definative answer.
---Circa 1900---
In attaching a line ( not wire) to a metal becket I've seen several approaches:-

Eye splice without thimble
Eye Splice with thimble
Knot
Knot with a ring with the ring in the becket
knot on a shackle

etc

Was there a preferred way? Or some rules of thumb?

Thanx

PS yes i do want that level of detail for several rigging examples I want to show--not on the entire model.:D

Knots are weak so splicing would have been used in most cases. A thimble would also probably have been used more often than not - although this is a bit after my period of knowledge so I can't say with any certainty.

Thanks Paul;
I think I'll go with the eye splice and thimble. It seems like the best alternative.
