Cool. Nice background. The details are great.

Was she before the Me-262 or after?

This was my second completed plane after the Me262.

It was my first attempt at a Rhino model and I wasn't happy with the blends between wings, engines and fuselage. Also I did not have any effective way of converting the Rhino nurbs to a good clean mesh for uv mapping. Rhino produces a really ugly mesh and max produces a poor mesh. Both do not weld the seams between the nurbs surfaces so there is hours and hours of work to fix it up and even then the results are average.

So I redid the plane again from scratch in max using polys and this is the result. Glad you liked it.

Always thought this was a great image Kev. It really is a shame you're not doing too much 3D stuff any more, but then again the break might do you some good. I often find that.

Thanks Pete. Will be taking a break from 3d for a couple of months to do some 2d work but will continue with the texturing and rendering of two planes after that. The two planes are the Buffalo (just need to finish textures) and a Luft '46 aircraft where the modelling is complete and I just need to uv map and texture.

Good to have 'Winston' back. I still feel this image could become a lot more realistic with some post editing. A simple thing to do is to add more grain to the aircraft so it matches the background better. Similarly the edges need a slight blurring to give it a more photoreal look. If you rendered this at very high resolution, you could use the Diffusion filter for this.

i totally agree with Ronnie on this one... it feels like it's sitting on the sky.... (have we done this before???)

Bit too polished looking if the aim is looking real?
There'd be some bug film taking the gloss away by the time he'd climbed to that alt.
Funny how easy it is to spot flaws in other's work but struggle to understand why my own looks like a dog's breakfast.:\
Winston is cool, thanks for sharing, again.

Rhino has tool for weld seams! Sometimes command Join working bad, then you can use Join two naked edges.

I like your Meteor very much. I planed to model it some time ago. Maybe in future... Good background joined with good model.

This particular Meteor was modelled in Max because I couldn't solve the meshing problems on my Rhino version, so the Rhino model was discarded.
Yes, I used the Join tool on my Rhino Meteor but when you convert your nurbs model to a mesh the software doesn't recognise the join and creates an ugly seam at this point which requires hours and hours of clean up of the high poly mesh to make it look smooth again. Frustrating stuff.

PS Working on new textures for my Meteor at the moment. RAAF version.
